Job Summary
The School of Human Development and Family Science at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor position for the academic year 2026-2027. Located within the College of Education and Human Sciences, the school offers undergraduate degrees in Family Science and Early Childhood. Completers of Early Childhood are prepared to seek a five-year educator license (PreK-K) in the state of Mississippi. Completers of Family Science are eligible to become Certified Family Life Educators through the National Council of Family Relations. The undergraduate programs are accredited by the American Association for Family and Consumer Sciences. The school offers a COAMFTE accredited Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy, with an on-campus training clinic, The Center for Family Therapy. and a Master of Science in Child and Family Sciences. The school also offers a Master of Science in Human Development and Family Science, a fully online program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
+ Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in HDFS, primarily in the area of early childhood
+ Teach in online formats
+ Supervise lab courses
+ Coordinate and collaborate with other instructors
+ Advise/mentor undergraduate and graduate students
+ Collaborate with area schools/agencies
+ Provide University and professional service
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate in Human Development and Family Science, Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field.
Direct experience and/or applied work in early care and education settings.
Evidence of successful teaching experience.
Evidence of strong research skills and aligned scholarship or demonstrated potential for developing a scholarly research program.

+ Ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from all backgrounds, programs, and colleges.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience or expertise in one or more of these areas:
Three years or more of teaching or administrative experience in an early childhood setting.
Developmental perspectives on risk and resilience.
Special education or early intervention experience or credentials.
Early literacy credentials (i.e., LETRS certificate, passed Foundations of Reading Exam).
