    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The Department of English at Stony Brook University is looking to hire an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing specializing in Fiction, with a possible secondary specialization in creative nonfiction. The successful candidate must hold either an M.F.A. or a Ph.D. in Creative Writing, English, or a closely related field. We are looking for an accomplished writer with a strong record of publication but also a proven record of successful teaching. The successful candidate will be joining a number of prominent creative writers, in poetry, fiction, and playwriting, as part of a new B.A. in Creative Writing. The ideal candidate will be someone who sees the value of fostering dialog between creative writers and scholars studying literature, film, and other media. The English department at Stony Brook has a capacious view of the field, encompassing multiple traditions and various media and valuing both creative practice and scholarship. It is a vibrant intellectual and cultural community within striking distance of NYC. Specialists in literary fiction or in any form of genre fiction are welcome to apply.

    Additional book-length or other work(s) of fiction or creative nonfiction, published or forthcoming from respected venues. Secondary focus on creative nonfiction. Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
