Minimum Required Qualifications:
+ Minimum of one year of professional work experience (or two years part-time) within campus recreation, park management, challenge course operations, or related field
+ Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, Health Education, Sport Management, Higher Education, or related field
+ Current CPR , AED , First Aid or ability to obtain within 45 days
+ Ability and willingness to occasionally work evening and weekend hours
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience supervising student staff in a higher education setting.
+ Master’s Degree in Recreation Administration, Leadership, Outdoor Recreation, or related field.
+ Experience working at or managing a challenge course
+ Experience with challenge course inspection and maintenance
+ Active member in relevant professional organizations such as: Association for Challenge Course Technology ( ACCT ), or Association for Experiential Education ( AEE )
Job Description
Responsible for providing and promoting opportunities for the Texas State community to participate in recreational activities and resources.
Description:The Coordinator for University Camp will lead and manage the administration of University Camp, including the Team Building Program. University Camp facilities consist of a 126-acre property, encompassing: a challenge course; two lodges; 9 campsites; and general day use that can be reserved throughout the year.
The Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of responsibilities including program delivery and assessment, staff supervision, equipment and facility management while complying with risk management standards. Central to this role is the coordination and supervision of day-to-day activities at University Camp, ensuring seamless program delivery and maintaining quality standards. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, direct collaboration with campus and external partners for achievement of the vision, mission, and strategic goals of Campus Recreation.
Job Duties
Program/Facility Management 40%:
+ Coordinate and manage day-to-day operations of University Camp, including facility supervision, point of sale processes, website maintenance and implementing operational policies and procedures
+ Manage operations, maintenance, and inspections of the challenge course and relevant team building programming, while ensuring operations align with participant needs and safety standards.
+ Develop proposals and implement new ideas for the improvement of overall operations and growth of programs/services/usage
+ Collaborate with the marketing department to coordinate program area promotion to campus and community
+ Develop and conduct assessments of program goals annually. Report assessment results to leadership as documentation of programmatic outcomes supporting department and division goals
+ Manage and evaluate all routine events, special events and rentals scheduled at University Camp
+ Coordinate and support facility-related events and activities
+ Regularly inspect and maintain camp facilities, including cabins, campsites, day use sites, restrooms, trail system and outdoor spaces
+ Coordinate with department maintenance staff to ensure all routine and preventative maintenance and custodial needs are being completed for University Camp
Staff Development and Oversight: 30%
+ Work with the Assistant Director of Outdoor to recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate approximately 10 student staff, including but limited to, Team Building Facilitators (6), and University Camp Attendants (4). Conduct routine trainings, meetings and develop staff schedules
+ Coordinate fieldwork and internships that are project based and align with departmental goals and priorities
Administration and Budget Management: 10%
+ Work with Assistant Director of Outdoor in the completion of the overall area budget.
+ Use budget forecasting models to project future payroll, equipment, operating expenses and revenue. Monitor income and expenses.
+ Purchase equipment and supplies
+ Approve staff time and ensure compliance with payroll and purchasing processes
Risk Management and Safety: 10%
+ Ensure compliance of staff with industry standard safety and risk management practices, facility and equipment inspections, and established Campus Recreation policies and procedures
+ Assist with department wide safety refreshers, drills and trainings
+ Acquire ACCT Level 1 certification within 6 months of employment
Other Duties: 10%
+ Actively participate in departmental programs and projects designed to support the mission and goals of the university, division, and department
+ Serve on committees and task forces, as assigned
+ Other duties as requested or required, whether specifically mentioned in this job description
+ This position requires a work schedule which at times will require frequent attendance during evenings, weekends, and academic breaks.
+ Additional hours may be required during peak periods
