    SUMMARY

    The Engineering Manager – Wire & Cable provides technical and strategic leadership to engineering teams supporting wire and cable manufacturing operations. This role drives results through process optimization, product innovation, machine design, and sustaining engineering activities and ensuring the delivery of high-reliability products to customers. As a player-coach, the Engineering Manager champions team development, fosters a culture of continuous improvement, and integrates design for manufacturability (DFM) principles to enhance production efficiency and product quality. The role is a factory leadership team (FLT) member with responsibility to drive safety, quality, delivery and cost initiatives to support business needs.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    + Provide overall leadership and direction to engineering teams, including process engineering, project engineering, automation/software, and configuration management, with a strong focus on developing technical and leadership capabilities within the team.

    + Foster a culture of learning, innovation, and technical excellence within the engineering team. Hire, train, mentor, and develop staff (engineers, supervisors, and technicians) to build a cohesive and skilled team.

    + Drive effectiveness of engineering group by implementing robust training programs, mentoring staff, and fostering skill development to build a high-performing, adaptable team.

    + Serve as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for wire and cable manufacturing, applying design for manufacturability (DFM) principles to optimize production processes and reduce costs.

    + Develop and refine engineering processes, standards, and policies (e.g., ECOs, design, equipment/process qualification) using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to enhance efficiency and product reliability.

    + Support new product development by collaborating with product management and sales on quotations, prototypes, and production launches, ensuring manufacturability and scalability.

    + Manage engineering resources and lead capital equipment planning to meet business objectives and drive manufacturing efficiency.

    + Drive quality, delivery, and cost objectives through corrective actions, continuous improvement, and DFM-driven strategies.

    + Incorporate the latest technological advancements to maximize process capability and deliver measurable KPI results

    + Coordinate projects with plant functions (Operations, Sales, QA, Maintenance, Customer Service) and participate in production stand-ups, waste reviews, MRB, and value stream meetings to align on process and DFM initiatives.

    + As a factory leadership team member, drive a safety-first culture by promoting and enforcing safety practices across all engineering and manufacturing activities.

    + Ensures compliance with safety, quality, and environmental policy, regulatory, and industry standards.

    SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    Manages performance of engineering staff: direct reports include engineering supervisors. Responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to enhance technical expertise and leadership skills.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    + Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field required.

    + Master’s degree in Engineering Management, MBA, or related discipline preferred.

    + 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles.

    + Experience in wire, cable, harness, or interconnect product manufacturing strongly preferred.

    + Prior experience in commercial aerospace, defense, avionics, or related high-reliability industries a plus.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

    JOB SKILLS

    + Exceptional leadership skills with a proven track record of developing high-performing technical teams through mentorship, training, and career development.

    + Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

    + Understanding of modern wire manufacturing techniques, automation, and software integration.

    + Proven ability to lead company-wide initiatives, drive positive change, and implement process improvements that enhance manufacturing capabilities and product quality.

    + Previous Experience with developing, managing processes such as Process and Product Design and development, configuration management, Root Cause/Corrective Action etc.

    + Expertise in applying engineering concepts and tools, including DFM, process capability analysis, Six Sigma, Lean, and Design of Experiments, to drive operational excellence.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Must be able to work in a factory environment to include walking the factory floor and other related activities as well as working in an administrative environment.
