Job Description – Produce Quality Control and Assurance (QCA) Associate
Classification:Non-Exempt
Reports to:Director of Produce
The primary function of this position is to oversee and maintain the quality of fresh produce in warehouse operations by monitoring, documenting, and enforcing quality standards for all incoming, in-stock, and outbound produce items. This role is critical in upholding high standards of product quality, food safety, and compliance with internal protocols and external regulations.
The Produce QCA Associate must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Inspect and document the condition of inbound produce shipments for quality, temperature, packaging, and specification compliance.
+ Conduct quality checks on in-stock produce to identify spoilage, aging, or non-conforming product, and flag for removal or repack.
+ Perform daily audits and quality spot checks throughout the warehouse to ensure ongoing product integrity.
+ Document and report findings, including lot numbers, quality grades, defects, and corrective actions using internal tracking tools or Warehouse Management System (WMS).
+ Monitor proper rotation practices (FIFO) and storage temperatures to ensure product freshness and shelf life.
+ Support repack operations by identifying quality issues during breakdown and providing quality input to associates.
+ Partner with warehouse and inventory teams to assist in root cause analysis of quality issues and returns.
+ Maintain produce department cleanliness and adhere to company sanitation standards.
+ Operate and inspect all assigned equipment, including pallet jacks, hand trucks, and thermometers, following safety protocols.
+ Help facilitate internal audits, assist with regulatory or third-party inspections (e.g. HACCP, OSHA), and ensure compliance with food safety protocols.
+ Act as a resource to produce associates on quality guidelines and handling procedures.
+ Adhere to all company safety practices, standard operating procedures, and policies.
+ Must complete any additional tasks/duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Education/Training
+ Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English as it relates to the job and safety requirements.
+ Must possess basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
+ Previous warehouse experience preferred.
+ Minimum 1 year of produce handling or inspection experience preferred.
+ Familiarity with food safety and quality standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP, FIFO) is a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
+ Must be able to use, or learn to use, all equipment and tools used to perform the job.
+ Attention to detail and a strong sense of accountability.
+ Excellent observational, documentation, and communication skills.
+ Ability to operate or learn to operate WMS and basic documentation systems.
+ Must be able to follow direction and work both independently and as part of a team.
+ Willingness to work in a cold environment and handle perishable items.
+ Must adhere to all safety practices and company policies.

+ Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and climb for prolonged periods of time.
+ Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
+ Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, balance, talk, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit.
+ Regularly required to push/pull/lift/carry and/or move up to 40 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move between 41 and 50 pounds, and seldom lift and/or move 51 pounds and up to 100 pounds.
+ Comfortable working in varying conditions (cold storage, rooftop units, confined spaces, etc.).
General Requirements
+ Must be at least 18 years of age.
+ Must successfully pass a controlled substance screening test.
+ Must adhere to all safety practices and company policies.
+ This is a full-time position. Must be able to work Monday-Friday , as well as weekends as needed. Work hours may vary, or change based on departmental requirements.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the Produce QCA Associate will constantly work near powered industrial equipment and experience exposure to vibration and moderate to high noise levels. The work environment includes congested and high traffic areas, slippery floors, working alongside forklifts, single pallet jacks, electric walk behind jacks and hand carts. Walking and working on concrete flooring. Duties will require working in Varying climates. Temperatures range from below zero in the freezer to 95°F or above outdoors.
