    JOB SUMMARY

    The University of Connecticut Center for Access and Postsecondary Success (CAPS) is seeking a full-time Director to oversee the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, SSS supports the retention and graduation of students who are first-generation to college and from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. This grant funded position is year-end-date with the possibility of renewal and reports to the CAPS Associate Director.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Manage project operations according to program objectives; prepare necessary reports

    + Resolve problems to meet priorities and student/program needs.

    + Plan, administer, and evaluate a comprehensive program for first-generation and low-income students including academic year and summer programming.

    + Manage approved budget, approve expenditures, and prepare budget reports & projections.

    + Screen applicants and admit students to the SSS program; supervise registration & course scheduling; and provide academic, career, and personal advising to participants.

    + Collaborate with other departments to recruit and support students.

    + Review recommendations regarding academic probation and dismissals.

    + Select, train, supervise, and evaluate SSS staff.

    + Collect and analyze program data to evaluate program effectiveness.

    + Review records for accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures.

    + Assure compliance with state and federal requirements and prepare necessary reports

    + Counsel and advise project participants in academic, financial, career, and personal matters.

    + Perform related duties, as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    + Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, social sciences, or a related field AND four years of experience working with students in a higher education setting who are first-generation to college and from low-socioeconomic backgrounds; OR, EdD/PhD AND two years of such related experience.

    + Experience planning, administering, and evaluating comprehensive programs, such as those targeted to residential summer programs and retention strategies.

    + Experience working collaboratively with other departments or programs to promote student success.

    + Demonstrated organizational, leadership and communication skills to effectively promote the SSS program, counsel students, and motivate and supervise staff.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Experience with TRIO programs, either as a participant or faculty/staff member.

    This is a full-time, end-dated position with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and funding.
