    Job Summary

    The Child Life Specialist 2 helps pediatric patients and families with emotional, social, and developmental needs. Their goal is to improve care and support during challenging times. They also help create strategies for the Child Life team.

    Essential Functions of the Role

    + Collaborate with parents and other associated adults to evaluate psychosocial needs of children and their families before applying therapeutic solutions.

    + Work in a team to provide psychosocial care and advocate for kids' well-being during medical treatment. Ensure children receive optimal care.

    + Provide explanations on severe illnesses or injuries to children, parents, and adults. Explain diagnosis, coping methods, grief, and sorrow.

    + Arrange play sessions to help kids understand, feel normal, and express emotions in a safe environment.

    + Educate parents and adults on normal versus unusual ways kids cope, behavioral changes, common concerns, and support services.

    + Teach medical staff about Child Life services. Identify patients and families who may benefit. Suggest ways to expand the program.

    + Help develop best practices for Child Life team. Grow team and mentor specialists.

    + Aid in managing and inventorying departmental supplies.

    + Handle special visitor requests, conduct community group tours, and cooperate with Foundation or media relations to contribute to philanthropic efforts.

    Key Success Factors

    + Holding at least three years of experience in a child life specialist role is crucial.

    + A master's degree is more than welcome.

    + You need to understand child development, theories of child life, evidence-based practices, and interventions for childhood trauma and grief.

    + Desire effective communication skills, including effective listening, empathy, self-awareness, and social awareness. Proven presentation skills are preferred.

    + To be successful in child life, you must manage time well and prioritize tasks authoritatively. Working autonomously is essential.

    + Respect diversity, value cultural proficiency. Care for children, families, medical staff from various backgrounds.

    + This role needs proactive initiative to educate medical staff on Child Life services. Clear communication is key for explaining children's responses to illness, hospitalization, and grief.

    + Improving kids' mental well-being, like encouraging sibling bonds, facilitating meaningful farewells, and supporting memory celebrations, is essential.

    + You must handle emotional challenges when working with children and families facing serious illness and death.

    + We need good documentation skills; professionalism in tone and spelling is important.

    + Using protective gear like masks, gowns, and gloves is crucial for self-protection. Head covers and shoe covers are also necessary.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    + EDUCATION - Bachelor's

    + EXPERIENCE - (3) three years of experience.

    CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION

    + Cert Child Life Specialist (CCLS)

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain within 30 days of hire or transfer.
