The Georgia House of Representatives is seeking a detail-oriented, customer focused individual to serve as a Committee Assistant to support the work of assigned committees and the member(s) in the Assistant's assigned office. The successful candidate will initially be assigned on a floating basis to assist other Committee Assistants.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
+ Arranging committee meetings.
+ Tracking legislation.
+ Providing support to assigned member(s).
+ Preparing, typing, and proofreading a variety of correspondence, forms, and reports.
+ Scheduling appointments and maintaining calendars for assigned member(s).
+ Coordinating office activities and serving as a liaison with other House or government offices as needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma and at least three years of relevant experience; Associate Degree and at least two years of relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work. Previous work experience in a legislative environment is preferred, but not necessary.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
+ Knowledge of office administration principles and procedures.
+ Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs, including the Microsoft Office suite of products.
+ Knowledge of constituent services and principles.
+ Knowledge of scheduling and calendar management principles and practices.
+ Knowledge of the offices and agencies of state government in order to provide accurate information and assistance to constituents.
+ Knowledge of legislative process and procedures.
+ Skill in the preparation and proofreading of proclamations, letters, memoranda, reports, forms, and other documents.
+ Skill in providing assistance to constituents and other members of the public with a wide variety of questions, concerns, and issues.
+ Skill in the resolution of problems.
+ Skill in interpersonal communication.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The work is typically performed in an office while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The Committee Assistant may occasionally lift light objects.
