    About the Role

    The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides high-quality educational services to students with severe disabilities, ages 6–21. This role requires a strong commitment to individualized instruction, collaboration with general education staff, and creating a safe, supportive learning environment for students with significant behavioral and developmental needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Deliver specialized instruction and support to students with severe disabilities.

    + Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

    + Collaborate with general education teachers, behavior technicians (BTs), and support staff.

    + Manage classrooms with high behavioral needs, including students who may exhibit aggressive behaviors (e.g., hitting, biting, kicking).

    + Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

    Classroom Details

    + Student Ages: 6–21 years old

    + Class Size: Small groups; typically a handful of students per class

    + Support: 1–2 Behavior Technicians per classroom

    + Environment: High-acuity setting with students who have severe disabilities and behavioral challenges

    Minimum Requirements

    + Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university (preferred)

    + Valid state teaching certificate as required by state/district regulations

    + State Teacher Certification (Special Education preferred)

    + Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred

    + Minimum 1 year of teaching experience (preferred)

    + Current CPR certification (if applicable)

    + TB test and health clearance (as required)

    + Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements

    + Must be at least 18 years of age
