    • About the Role

     

    We’re looking for a dedicated Coding Specialist to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, you’ll be a vital part of our team, ensuring excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast-paced healthcare environment. In this role, you'll be responsible for the accurate and timely coding and abstracting of patient records using the ICD-10-CM and CPT classification systems. You'll ensure optimal reimbursement by applying all coding guidelines in the sequencing and assignment of codes and interact with providers to facilitate modifications to clinical documentation through the query process.

     

    • What You’ll Do

    + Code and abstract patient records while maintaining expected standards of accuracy (98%).

    + Code and abstract patient records while maintaining expected standards of productivity.

    + Assist patient financial services personnel with coding/abstracting questions.

    + Assist with the training/orientation of employees as requested by the manager.

    + Maintain coding/abstracting skills through participation in a variety of educational offerings, and review of current literature in paper and electronic form.

    + Assist with monitoring the unbilled report, resolve issues and prioritize work to maintain established accounts receivable targets.

    + Participate in the coding subcommittee group and actively contribute to the list of agenda items, resolution of issues and development of coding guidelines/quick reference guides.

    + Use hospital systems and tools to document care and support operations

    + Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and support patient and staff satisfaction

    + Serve as a positive, professional representative of our hospital and community

    • What You Bring

    + Associate’s degree or progress towards a degree in Health Information Technology. A Bachelor's degree in a related medical field plus medical terminology and anatomy and physiology will be considered in lieu of a degree in HIT.

    + RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA or CPC certification required.

    + A High School diploma or GED with a coding credential will be considered.

    + A strong background in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology with working knowledge and skill in ICD-10-CM and CPT-coding principles preferred, as is coding experience in an acute care setting.
