Job Description
Job Title: Automation Technician
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Automation Technician to support and maintain the automation systems at our fiberglass mat manufacturing plant. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Siemens PCS 7 DCS, TIA Portal, and Siemens G120/S120 drives, ensuring optimal operation of automated production systems and minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain DCS/PLC systems and drives to ensure smooth plant operations.
• Perform routine diagnostics, repairs, and calibration of automation equipment, including:
o Siemens PCS 7 Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
o TIA Portal-based Siemens PLCs (S7-1200/1500 series)
o Siemens G120 and S120 variable frequency drives (VFDs)
o Analog and Digital Sensors (Sick, Vega, E&H, and Banner)
• Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize process control and system performance.
• Support software modifications, backups, and documentation of automation code and drive parameters.
• Assist in the installation, commissioning, and startup of new automation equipment or upgrades.
• Maintain compliance with plant safety protocols, electrical codes, and company standards.
• Use HMIs, diagnostic tools, and remote interfaces for real-time monitoring and issue resolution.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on system reliability and efficiency.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Associate’s Degree or Technical Diploma in Automation, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field Preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in an industrial automation or controls technician role.
• Hands-on experience with Siemens PCS 7, TIA Portal, and Siemens G120/S120 drives.
• Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Ethernet/IP).
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and Multiple types of Logic.
• Solid troubleshooting skills in both hardware and software systems.
• Familiarity with motor controls, VFDs, sensors, actuators, and safety circuits.
Preferred:
• Experience in a continuous manufacturing environment, ideally in fiberglass, paper, or chemical processing.
• Basic knowledge of SCADA systems and data logging tools.
• Understanding of process instrumentation (flow, temperature, pressure, level sensors).
Work Environment:
• Industrial plant setting with exposure to noise, heat, dust, and moving equipment.
• Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and wear appropriate PPE.
• Ability to work on-call, as required for support and maintenance.
