FUNCTION & SCOPE: The SUNY Charter Schools Institute was established in February 1999 for the purpose of evaluating proposals for new charter schools; ongoing monitoring of student academic performance, fiscal soundness, and overall school operations; and presenting recommendations on renewal of charters to the SUNY Trustees.
The School Finance and Compliance Manager reports to the Institute's Managing Director of School Finance and is responsible for the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of fiscal performance and compliance of charter schools.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
+ Act as primary point of contact with school leaders, school boards, NYSED and other stakeholders to manage inquiries, resolve problems or specific concerns regarding the Institute's fiscal and facility policies and practices.
+ Develop and provide training to charter school boards regarding the Institute's fiscal oversight and offer specific training or technical guidance to charter schools as needed.
+ Perform in depth analysis of school financial data including budgets, quarterly submissions and audits, investigate fiscal and enrollment concerns, expansions, closures and other fiscal issues.
+ Troubleshoot issues related to charter school facilities and act as liaison to NYSED, NYCDOE, or other agencies as required.
+ Act as member of school visit teams when appropriate and/or meet with school leaders and boards related to fiscal or facilities.
+ Act as lead reviewer for New Applications and Renewal processes, and draft fiscal sections for inclusion in public facing reports and other documents.
+ Review pre-opening financial submissions for new schools opening and assist charter leaders to understand submission and reporting requirements.
+ Draft fiscal sections for inclusion in public facing reports.
+ Lead cross team ad hoc analysis across various data sources as needed for special projects or requests from internal and external stakeholders.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
+ Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other relevant field and 3-5 years of progressively responsible work experience in accounting or finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Advanced Excel skills.
+ Ability to work independently and with large volumes of data while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to participate in school evaluation visits as needed.
Preferred:
+ Master's Degree in relevant field or CPA preferred
+ Experience in auditing, compliance, financial monitoring or internal controls preferred.
+ Experience with Tableau preferred
SALARY: $85,000 - $90,000
