The Pre-Analytics Processing Technician is responsible for manually processing laboratory specimens, performing daily quality assurance activities, and maintaining equipment. A caregiver in this position works nights, 11:00pm-7:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

+ Receive and accession specimens into the LIS (Lab Information System).

+ Prepare specimens for analysis.

+ Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting, and routine maintenance), problem-solving functions, and issue resolution.

+ Assume compliance with basic regulations (temperature monitoring).

+ Perform QA activities (pending log audit).

+ Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens and verify receipts in the lab.

+ Perform basic clerical functions (i.e., answering phones).

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ High School Diploma or GED **and** one year of lab experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

+ Associate's degree, preferably in a science related field (this may substitute the **one** year of experience needed above)

+ Strong organizational and time management skills

Physical Requirements:

+ Manual dexterity to perform specimen handling techniques and to take measurements

+ May require extended periods of standing, walking and/or sitting.

+ Handles and transports bio hazardous materials.

+ Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.

+ Must have normal or corrected vision.

+ Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
