    Job Summary

    Oregon State University Student Health Services ( SHS ) and Counseling & Psychological Services ( CAPS ) is seeking a Primary Care Behaviorist. This is a full-time 1.00 FTE , 12-month, professional faculty position.

     

    The Primary Care Behaviorist, which is a shared position between Oregon State University Student Health Services ( SHS ) and Counseling & Psychological Services ( CAPS ), is responsible for providing behavioral health consultation services within a primary care setting using the Integrated Behavioral Health model. The successful candidate will work alongside medical providers, mental health clinicians, and other health professionals to address behavioral health concerns that affect students’ physical and mental well-being. Within this team-based model, this position helps to provide wraparound care to a diverse student body and supports OSU’s mission to promote student success through health and wellness. This position will be primarily located within SHS .

    Key Responsibilities

    Behavioral Health Consultation (60%)

    Deliver brief, targeted interventions (20–30 minutes) for mental and behavioral health concerns within the primary care clinic. Presenting issues may include depression, anxiety, substance use, sleep, stress, eating behaviors, or chronic condition management.

    Integrated Team Collaboration (15%)

    Collaborate with primary care providers, psychiatry, mental health, and wellness staff to develop and implement coordinated care plans. Participate in case consultations and contribute to shared health goals. Serve as a bridge between SHS and CAPS to coordinate care for shared patients when needed.

    Training and Outreach (15%)

    Provide training and guidance for medical staff on behavioral health topics. Provide clinical supervision to trainees. Participate in student outreach programs focused on well-being, prevention, and stigma reduction.

    Documentation and Compliance (10%)

    Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record system. Ensure adherence to confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and university standards.

    What You Will Need

    + Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC ), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist ( LMFT ) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker ( LCSW ) in the state of Oregon, or eligible for licensure within six months of hire.

    + Two years of clinical experience providing behavioral or mental health services (may include supervised hours).

    + Demonstrated experience providing brief, solution-focused interventions.

    + Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in clinical practice.

     

    This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

    What We Would Like You to Have

    + Experience working in integrated primary care or college health settings

    + Demonstrated experience assessing, treating, and coordinating care for high-risk patients

    + Familiarity with the Primary Care Behavioral Health ( PCBH ) model

    + Competence in managing behavioral health aspects of medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, chronic pain)

    + Licensed to practice independently by start date

    Working Conditions / Work Schedule

    Primarily a clinical office setting within the health center. Requires ability to work standard weekday hours with occasional evening outreach or trainings. Must be able to respond calmly in urgent clinical situations. Minimal physical demands.
