    Position Overview: The Section Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and supervision of the day-to-day operations in their assigned section in the high complexity laboratory, within established federal guidelines. In the absence of the General Supervisor, Medical Laboratory Director, and Administrative Laboratory Director, the Section Supervisor may be assigned to be "in-charge" and must be accessible to testing personnel as needed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation.

    Position Highlights:

    + Starting Rate: $28.72 + per hour (commensurate with experience)

    + Shift Differentials: $2.50 - $5.00 per hour

    + Sign On Bonus Eligible: Up to $6,500 (if full time)

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrates required dexterity, knowledge, and skills (including strong written and verbal communication skills) necessary to perform as an independent/team member of the Granville Health System Laboratory; understanding variations in care for all age groups and complying with regulatory, safety, and infection control requirements, as well as GHS policies and procedures.

    • Follows laboratory policies and procedures for: specimen collection, handling, and processing; test performance and analysis; and reporting/maintaining of patient test results for all laboratory testing (waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing), without supervision or prior supervisory review of patient results (following demonstration and documentation of required competencies).

    • Adheres to the GHS Laboratory’s Quality Assurance procedures for quality control, calibrations, maintenance, proficiency testing, continuing education, and GHS mandatory online education; as well as identification, documentation, and troubleshooting of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical problems that may affect patient results (ensuring that results are not reported until problems are resolved).

    • Evaluates, monitors, and maintains a sufficient inventory of laboratory supplies within the assigned section.

    • Ensures that all laboratory processes comply with CAP guidelines and participates in laboratory inspections as needed.

    • Utilizes required computer programs, software, and laboratory information systems; ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained in compliance with HIPAA at all times.

    • Maintains, develops, updates, and/or reviews (annually) laboratory procedures/policies in assigned section for new and existing test methods.

    • Participates in the evaluation, development, and/or implementation of new equipment and procedures, making recommendations for quality improvement as appropriate.

    • Participates in the training of students, new hires, and other employees; and administers competency assessments and remedial training as required.

    • Assists the Administrative Laboratory Director in monitoring workflow and staffing levels; ensuring adequate staffing for the laboratory.

    • Reviews all quality assurance data/documentation; and prepares monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports as designated by the Administrative Laboratory Director.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science/medical technology with at least 2 years of experience in high complexity testing within the laboratory section to be supervised; or

     

    Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology with at least 2 years of experience in high complexity testing within the laboratory section to be supervised.

     

    (Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered)

     

    Experience as a Generalist is preferred.

     

    Supervisory experience preferred.
