Position Summary:

The Receiver is responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient receipt of all incoming store deliveries. This position plays a critical role in maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring product quality, and keeping the backroom organized and secure. The Receiver inspects shipments, verifies invoices, documents deliveries, and works closely with department managers to ensure stock is distributed promptly and correctly.
Primary Position Duties:
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Unload and receive all deliveries according to company procedures and food safety standards.
+ Verify incoming shipments against invoices or packing slips for accuracy in quantity, condition, and item description.
+ Communicate any discrepancies, damage, or missing items to the appropriate department and vendor if necessary.
+ Ensure temperature-sensitive items are promptly moved to proper storage areas (cooler, freezer, etc.).
+ Maintain accurate receiving logs and complete required paperwork and digital documentation.
+ Notify department managers of arriving deliveries and ensure timely distribution of products to the sales floor or storage areas.
+ Keep receiving area, backroom, and dock clean, organized, and free from safety hazards.
+ Follow all safety and sanitation policies, including proper lifting techniques and equipment usage.
+ Assist with returns, credits, and backhauls as needed.
+ Support store operations by assisting with inventory counts or special projects during non-receiving times or slow times.
Guest Service:
+ Maintain respectful, professional, and courteous communication with all vendors, ensuring positive working relationships and representing Lee’s Marketplace values at all times.
+ Resolve vendor complaints or product concerns professionally and promptly.
+ Step in to assist guests or redirect them to the appropriate team member if approached while on the sales floor or near receiving areas.
+ Communicate effectively with department teams to prevent out-of-stocks or delays that could impact the guest experience.
+ Help maintain a clean, organized backroom that supports overall store efficiency and cleanliness.
Product Handling:
+ Safely unload deliveries from trucks using pallet jacks, carts, and other equipment.
+ Inspect incoming product for damage, expiration dates, and proper temperature (especially refrigerated/frozen goods).
+ Handle all products with care to prevent damage, contamination, or spoilage.
+ Sort and stage deliveries by department for efficient distribution and minimal disruption to sales floor operations.
+ Store temperature-sensitive items immediately in coolers, freezers, or designated areas to maintain product integrity.
+ Rotate stock according to FIFO (First In, First Out) to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area to support proper product handling and workplace safety.
+ Document and report any product discrepancies, damages, or safety concerns to leadership immediately.
Cleanliness and Safety:
+ Maintain a clean and organized work area.
+ Follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
+ Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.
+ Provides an example for other team members to maintain a clean and safe environment
+ Ensures safety and caution in all docks and vendor stations. Reports any safety concerns to Grocery Manager.
Team Collaboration:
+ Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.
+ Promote a high level of morale within department and store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication.
+ Provides a safe, clean, and positive environment; and consistently builds and supports a culture that is based on relationships and continuous improvement.
+ Continually strives to build knowledge and skills, both personally and within the department and store through training and education of self and other team members.
+ Provides a professional example for other team members to follow.
+ Attends team meetings and training sessions.
+ Assist other departments as needed.
+ Work in a fast-paced, sales environment with tact and patience
+ Work with team to ensure products are sold well before their expiration date
Position Requirements:
+ Age requirement:18yrs+ Availability: 5:00am-4:00pm
Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods.
+ Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
+ Manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment.
+ Repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance.
+ Occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl.
+ Prolonged periods standing and walking.
+ Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the store.
+ Lifting may include floor to shoulder and overhead lifting repeatedly.
+ Occasional use and climbing of step stools or ladders are required.

+ Pallet jack
+ Forklift
+ Box Cutter Knives and Blades
+ Two-wheeler and six wheeler
+ Hand-held ordering machine
+ Computer use
+ Phone/Intercom
+ Any other tools and machinery seen fit for role
Education or Skills:
Education and Experience:
+ High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
+ 3+ years grocery retail experience
+ Computer proficiency
+ Previous receiving experience preferred
Skills and Abilities:
+ Ability to write, speak, hear, and understand the spoken word to respond promptly to pages, requests, team members, and guests.
+ Friendly, customer-focused attitude.
+ Basic knowledge of food safety or willingness to complete training
+ Punctual, dependable, and able to follow instructions
+ Ability to implement solutions quickly and effectively.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
+ Ability to handle team member, guest, and vendor inquiries and complaints effectively.
+ Ability to read and follow instructions.
+ Great verbal and written communication skills.
