    Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT) - Suffolk, Virginia

     

    Full Time: Mon-Fri, Day Shift | ASCP or AMT Required

    Job Description

    We are seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician who will follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results. This role involves working with cancer patients, offering an opportunity to make a meaningful impact during a challenging time.

    Responsibilities

    + Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and reporting.

    + Send specimens to reference laboratories for testing not performed in-house.

    + Process incoming orders for lab testing, including reference laboratory specimens.

    + Perform specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology specimens.

    + Maintain and operate all laboratory equipment.

    + Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance as indicated.

    + Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all QC activities.

    + Record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents.

    + Participate in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results annually.

    + Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differential.

    + Perform microscopic examination of urinary sediment.

    + Record results on appropriate worksheet and computer system and perform file maintenance.

    + Process specimens for send-out testing.

    + Follow laboratory policies whenever test systems are not within acceptable performance levels.

    + Identify and correct problems that may affect test performance or notify a supervisor.

    + Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance.

    + Ensure proper documentation as per the quality assurance program.

    + Verify all critical results and document accurate follow-up.

    + Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and ensure viability before use.

    + Prepare reagents, stains, and other chemical solutions as needed.

    + Restock the laboratory area as needed.

    + Process in-house and incoming results for charting.

    + Chart patient results in a timely manner as needed.

    Essential Skills

    + ASCP or AMT Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician.

    + Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program resulting in an associate degree.

    + 2+ years of experience preferred.

    + Generalist knowledge and understanding of CLIA regulations.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Experience working with oncology patients is beneficial.

    + Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing and documentation.

    + Ability to identify and solve problems related to laboratory testing.

    Work Environment

    The role operates Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 5:00 PM, with no weekend shifts required. . The position provides an opportunity to gain specialized experience in an oncology lab setting.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.
