    This position is based in Northbrook, Illinois. Remote work from certain states may be permitted in accordance with Astellas’ Responsible Flexibility Guidelines. Candidates interested in remote work are encouraged to apply.

    Purpose and Scope:

    Drive the development and execution of Translational Medicine strategies in support of Astellas’ preclinical and clinical immuno-oncology assets. Candidates should have a strong record of accomplishment in leading translational science/medicine programs with mechanistically grounded biomarker and patient selection strategies in clinical trials. Ability to lead and work with cross-functional teams is essential to the success of this position.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    + Design and implement biomarker strategies for (pre)-clinical studies, including hypotheses on the mechanism of action, biomarker identification, and patient selection approaches

    + Contribute to the overall clinical development strategy and trial design, incorporating biomarker endpoints

    + Collaborate with multiple teams across the value chain (e.g., clinical pharmacology, statistics, clinical operations, data management, clinical/asset teams) to ensure integration of biomarker strategies to inform clinical development

    + Analyze, interpret, and communicate clinical biomarker data to internal and external stakeholders to inform and/or enable decision-making

    + Contribute to clinical documents such as protocols, IBs, study reports, statistical analysis plans, publications, CSR and biomarker sections in regulatory submissions

    + Develop reverse translation strategies and plans that can be used to inform combination strategy and/or discovery research

    + Identify and lead the evaluation of state -of- the- art technologies for translational and biomarker research, including translational medicine-focused external collaborations

    Qualifications:

    Required

    + Advanced science degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) with primary focus in oncology and/or immuno-oncology

    + A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in drug discovery and clinical development in a biotech/pharmaceutical company, particularly with experience in the identification and validation of pharmacodynamic and patient selection biomarkers

    + Breadth of knowledge in cancer biology, cancer genomics, and oncology drug development

    + Proven record of leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams: demonstrated success in delivering high quality clinical biomarker data to inform decisions and development strategy

    + Broad technical experience in DNA, RNA, and protein-based biomarker assays (e.g. PCR, NGS, ELISA/MSD, IHC); experience with fit-for-purpose biomarker assay qualification and validation

    + Innovation and growth mindset with track record of incorporating new technologies in translational and biomarker research

    + Strong communication and leadership skills

     

    Salary Range

     

    $180K – $240K (NOTE: Final salary could be more or less, based on experience)
