    THE POSITION

    Douglas County Planning Department

     

    Full time non-exempt position. Includes excellent benefit package, including medical/vision/dental/long-term disability/basic life coverage and County-paid PERS retirement after required waiting periods.

     

    Onsite (Courthouse complex) childcare available at a discounted employee rate through Roseburg Professional Childcare (Fowler St. location only). Availability is subject to center waitlist.

    Job Summary:

    This position serves to provide clerical support to the Planning Department.

    Essential Job Duties:

    This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job.

     

    + Pick-up and deliver mail, packages and supplies for County mailroom

    + Assist clients/public in person and by telephone

    + Manage accounts receivable; maintain and report office cash fund

    + Maintain office supplies and inventory

    + Perform data entry; typing; filing; filing legal notices/agenda columns

    + Set up departmental meetings and serve as recording secretary

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. however, the following is preferred:

     

    + High school graduation or equivalency plus three years clerical experience of a progressively responsible nature, including customer service and working in an office setting.

    + Any combination of coursework, experience and training which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and ability necessary to perform the duties of the position, including senior-level competency using computers, spreadsheets, databases and other software programs typically used in an office environment.

     

    In addition to the above requirements, applications will receive further evaluation based on considerableknowledge of modern office practices and procedures, word processing, data spreadsheets, recordkeeping, systematic filing and retrieval processes; considerable knowledge of English composition, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; and basic math skills. Skill in t yping/keying accurately at a speed required by the position; operating office equipment, including but not limited to automated or computerized equipment, operation of a multi-line telephone; taking and transcribing dictation; reiterating information verbally and in writing. Ability to organize, file and retrieve materials and documents; add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers, common fractions and decimals; communicate effectively in both oral and written form, manage time efficiently while exercising initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; understand and follow directions, demonstrate attention to detail, solve practical problems, maintain records, reports and/or statistical data; interpret a variety of documents, instructions, or procedures; write complex correspondence; maintain confidentiality; work independently or as part of a team; make decisions independently in accordance with established policy; lead or supervise support staff; and courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees and the public.

    Position may require infrequent driving. Finalist will be required to provide a driving history that meets the Douglas County Driver Policy (http://www.co.douglas.or.us/hr/risk/safety/driving.asp) as part of contingent offer of employment
