Position Description

This position provides HIV pre and post-test counseling at the Downtown Detention Center located at 448 Second Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37201.

This position will work nights from 4:30pm to 1:00am.

Typical Duties

+ Provides educational information regarding STD/HIV in order to increase community awareness, knowledge, and prevention.

+ Provides direct services in a clinic, non-clinical, correctional, and non-traditional setting.

+ Conducts pre and post-test counseling services for patients taking an HIV test.

+ Counsel’s patients on HIV and STD prevention measures, test results, program services, and procedural guidelines.

+ Assist/provide oral swab screening via HIV OraQuick and assist/provide screening for gonorrhea and chlamydia.

+ Accurately and promptly documents services and observations in the client’s record.

+ Collect laboratory specimens as needed; attends training and in-service classes as appropriate.

+ Gain support and cooperation of public officials, community groups and agencies relative to health information concerns.

+ Assists in the development, promotion and implementation of a variety of health information, STD / HIV screenings, and education programs.

Minimum Qualifications

+ High school diploma.

+ Effective written and oral communications skills, group presentation skills and ability to operate audio-visual equipment.

+ Must be able to work a regular schedule consistently.

+ Must be willing to submit and able to pass Davidson County Sheriff’s Office background check as condition of employment.

+ Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

+ College degree.

+ Bilingual (English/Spanish).

+ Familiarity with venipuncture.

+ History of working with diverse populations and working as member of interdisciplinary team.

Full-time, Civil Service positions -
