UPMC Presbyterian is looking to hire a Full-Time Registered Nurse/Wound Care Specialist.
Our Wound Care RNs (referred to as Wound Care Specialists) provide expertise in health care services for prevention, health maintenance, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitative nursing care. They are a clinical resource and consultant for the acute and rehabilitative care of patients with selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems.
This can include:
+ Acute and Chronic Wounds
+ Ostomies
+ Percutaneous Tubes
+ Continence Disorders
Schedule:
+ Monday-Friday daylight hours
+ Rotating weekends required
Responsibilities:
+ The WOCN serves as a clinical expert and leader in the nursing care of patients with wounds, ostomies, fistulas, incontinence, and skin integrity issues. This role involves comprehensive patient assessment, development of individualized care plans, and ongoing follow-up to ensure continuity of care post-discharge. The nurse integrates evidence-based practices, national guidelines (WOCN, NPUAP), and organizational goals to enhance patient outcomes, quality, safety, and satisfaction.
+ Conducts holistic assessments addressing clinical, psychological, social, safety, and spiritual needs.
+ Develops and communicates individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
+ Provides expert consultation and education to patients, staff, and providers on wound and ostomy care.
+ Precepts and mentors new nurses, students, and residents; supports professional development through in-services, journal clubs, and resource sharing.
+ Participates in quality improvement initiatives, product evaluations, and shared governance councils.
+ Actively contributes to a healthy work environment, promoting collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and professional conduct.
+ Demonstrates strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills within the framework of Relationship-Based Care.
+ Completes other assigned duties as needed.
+ Minimum of 2 years nursing experience required.
+ BSN highly preferred.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Current licensure in practicing state as a Registered Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure. UPMC accepted national Wound and Ostomy certification preferred. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire Special Skills and Abilities Required Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physician, non-physician providers. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment and handle multiple and changing priorities.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Act 34
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
