    Join a Dynamic Leadership Team at Old Dominion University as Graduate Program Director for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Old Dominion University ( ODU ) invites visionary leaders to apply for the position of Graduate Program Director for our accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy ( DPT ) program. This is a full-time, 10-month faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor (tenured/tenure-track) or Clinical Associate Professor, depending on qualifications and scholarly achievements. The DPT program resides within a thriving academic environment, the School of Rehabilitation Sciences in the Ellmer College of Health Sciences, and graduates approximately 48 students annually. Our faculty includes 11 dedicated full-time core members, supported by an inclusive, collaborative academic environment that values interprofessional education, and research excellence. Faculty in the DPT program also contribute to advising and instruction in the College’s PhD program in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation.

     

    The Program Director plays a pivotal role in the academic life of the DPT program while maintaining a teaching and scholarship portfolio aligned with their areas of expertise, passion, and our curriculum needs. Responsibilities also include mentoring students, contributing to program and university service, and engaging in ongoing professional development. We are seeking an inspirational and forward-thinking leader who demonstrates collaborative leadership, strategic clarity, and inspires innovation and growth of our successful program.

    Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications

     

    Academic doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent); Eligible for the rank of Associate Professor or Clinical Associate Professor

    Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities

    + Minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience, including at least three years as a core faculty member in a CAPTE -accredited entry-level DPT program

    + Record of excellence in teaching and mentorship

    + Demonstrated effective communication skills

    + Licensed physical therapist in any US jurisdiction and eligible for Virginia licensure

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Active member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

    + Knowledge of accreditation processes and CAPTE requirements.

    + Experience with physical therapy education, curriculum design, and program evaluation.

    + Experience in educational and/or practice administrative and fiscal management.

    + Established record of impactful scholarship.

    + Clinical expertise in neurorehabilitation, neuroscience, or cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation (Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy; Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy).

    About the Department

    In addition to the DPT Program, the School of Rehabilitation Sciences offers a Doctor of Occupational Therapy program, a Master of Athletic Training program, an undergraduate Recreational Therapy program, and participates in a college-wide Kinesiology and Rehabilitation doctoral program. ODU recently merged with Eastern Virginia Medical School to form the new Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences. This has created an exciting new collaborative environment with the programs available from each entity.
