    Department Introduction

     

    Micron’s Surface Science team plays a pivotal part in advancing semiconductor device development by applying modern analytical techniques to materials and processes. The team collaborates across process development and laboratory functions to drive innovation in memory technology through surface characterization and analysis.

    Position Overview

    As a Surface Scientist Intern, you will contribute to the development of next-generation memory solutions by applying surface science techniques to semiconductor devices and thin film materials. This internship offers hands-on experience with advanced instrumentation and collaborative research projects aimed at improving sample preparation and characterization methods.

    Responsibilities

    + Partner with Surface Scientists to evaluate and enhance sample preparation and analysis techniques

    + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze data and identify process improvement opportunities

    + Innovate and refine techniques using existing analytical tools

    + Participate in technical meetings to explore new approaches and opportunities

    + Document research findings through reports and presentations

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field

    + Working knowledge of analytical instrumentation such as XPS, SIMS, APT, FIB, SEM, TEM, and electrical characterization techniques

    + Strong technical, communication, and analytical skills

    + Passion for learning and problem-solving in a collaborative environment

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience with surface science techniques in a semiconductor or research setting

    + Ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences

    + Familiarity with laboratory operations and measurement strategies

    + Demonstrated creativity in applying scientific tools to novel challenges

    + Proven ability to work independently and contribute to team-based projects
