    Description

    JOB DESCRIPTION: Expert nuclear medicine technology practitioner in clinical knowledge and technical skills. Provides direct patient care as needed and maintains expert clinical and technical skills. Ensures that patient/family needs and responses are handled appropriately. Monitors the use of patient education in daily clinical practice. Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and to obtain patient cooperation. Involves patient/family in the education of their imaging procedures. Assists with development of patient care education materials. Assumes supervisory responsibility when necessary. Assists with and monitors appropriateness of staff and patient care assignments. Assists with staff orientation and staff competency. Identifies and takes appropriate action for unacceptable practice and behavior. Coordinates daily procedure schedules, works with staff, physicians and ancillary services on daily workflow. Ensures the collection of performance improvement data. Works with staff and management team to identify opportunities for improvement initiatives. Participates on departmental performance teams and/or projects. Works independently and can coordinate in Supervisor's absence. Accountable for safe operation of diagnostic and medical equipment including Scintillation Cameras, Uptake Probes, Well Counters, Dose Calibrators and GM Meters. May serve as resource for staff and students. Troubleshoots equipment problems and advises supervisor of equipment malfunctions. Ensures that procedure rooms are stocked and that all supplies are within expiration period. Extensive knowledge of procedural supplies and location of supplies. Works with supervisory staff to ensure the appropriate supplies are available. Identifies need for revisions of patient and operational forms. Assists with documentation and revisions of daily procedure schedule. Monitors the adherence to documentation standards. Monitors completion of procedures in Radiology Information System to ensure billing of exams/procedure. Prepares billing sheet and ensures capture of supply charges. Monitors adherence to safety requirements of the hospital and department. Ensures that radiation protection is used to minimize patient and staff exposure. Can serve on departmental safety committee and/or projects. Evaluates staff educational needs and competency issues. Assists with departmental in-services. Works with staff on educational plan or corrective action. Ensures that staff is informed and that concerns are handled immediately. Communicates with physicians to assure optimal patient care and resources. Maintains complete knowledge base of procedures and supplies. Collaborates with and serves as resource to staff in determining procedural needs and priorities. Can serve on education committee. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Renews NMTCB certification or ARRT Registration to maintain current professional credentials.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology, be registered in Nuclear medicine with the ARRT or the Nuclear medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). CPR certification required. Must have a minimum of three (3) years experience with two (2) years in area of concentration. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

     

    ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
