We are responsible for assets ranging from human lives to physical property including the premises and contents for all employees and customers of Memorial Medical Center.Typical services include escort service, violent patient assistance, foot and vehicle patrols, open and lock procedures, hospital identification enforcement, and enforcement of hospital parking regulations.

*Security Awareness:*
* As a trained Security Officer practices security awareness in the context of the Criminal Justice System.
* Practices information sharing to enhance overall awareness of developing situations.
* Is aware of various crime and loss prevention techniques in the healthcare setting.
*Legal Aspects of Security:*
* Understands the legal requirements of evidence and evidence handling.
* Is trained in the use of force and force continuum.
* May be required to provide court testimony.
* Understands and is aware of Incident Scene Preservation technique.

* Familiar with State and Local Laws relating to private security in a healthcare setting.
*Security Officer Conduct:*
* Maintains strong ethics in the performance of duties.

*Observation and Incident Reporting:*
* Practices appropriate observation techniques.
* Skilled at adequate note taking.

*Principles of Access Control:*
* Understands and manages Ingress and Egress Control Procedures.
* Familiar with Electronic Security Systems and the operation.
*Principles of Safeguarding Information:*
* Understands protected health information under the HIPPA guidelines.
* Maintains awareness for control of company confidential information.
*Emergency Response Procedures:*
* Implements the Emergency Management Response per policy and protocol (e.g., natural disasters, accidents, human caused events).
* Assists in patient or visitor evacuation processes.
*Life Safety Awareness:*
* Understands Safety Hazards in the Workplace/Surroundings.
* Knows Emergency Equipment Placement.
* Trained in Fire Prevention Skills.
* Familiar with Hazardous Materials in a healthcare setting.
* Understands the Occupational Safety and Health Requirements (e.g., OSHA related training, bloodborne pathogens, etc.).
*Job Assignment and Post Orders:*
* Knows and understands all Code calls in relation to emergency assistance and Plain Language Codes.
Respond and assist as needed at the MMC helipad with incoming/outgoing flights.
* Assure security calls are answered in an appropriate period of time.
* Provide proper notification of events to Director, Manager, Nursing Supervisor on second and third shifts and weekends as well as switchboard and dispatchers.
* Enunciate call out procedures for call offs, emergencies or disasters.
* Must be capable of interacting with other Hospital Departments and employees within the patient care environment.
* Maintain security patrols (foot and vehicle) of Memorial Medical Center campus.
* Responsible for ensuring standard rotation of Security Officers to assigned areas as set forth in security rotation policy.
* Ability to perform work on various shifts, on call and call-in basis as deemed necessary.
* Maintains appropriate commitment to department in terms of attendance, hours of work, required education and training of new employees.
* Enhance public/employee relations.
*Practices Security Awareness:*
* Challenging of persons found in restricted areas.
* Challenging of persons departing MMC with undocumented MMC property.
* Enforcement of hospital parking and traffic rules and regulations.
* Adherence to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code.
* Maintain open and lock procedures for all areas of Memorial Medical Center.
* Completes departmental records as required.
* Incident report writing and responding.
* Review of security incidents for approval
* Input of daily man-hours and coordination of reports
* Attend in-service training and other meetings as required (five per year).
* Provide minor emergency maintenance as required.
* Assure proper operation of garage equipment such as gates, token machine and dispensers.
* Visitor control.**
* Visitor assistance.
* Coordinate the retrieval of Valet vehicles for customers after hours.
* Maintain lost and found request.
* Provide control of violent patients.
* Maintain patient items from violent patients.
* Maintain/enforce the Patient Prisoner Policy.
* Emergency disabled vehicle assistance.
* Monitor and maintain security vehicles for inspection, safety checks, cleanliness and appropriate fluids levels.
* Perform Screening Tests.
* Breath alcohol test.
* Single urine specimen collection procedure.
* Split urine specimen collection procedure.

*What we’re looking for *
Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED.
* Enrolled in the Act 235 Course or Enroll in the Act 235 Course within 6 months.
* Act 235 course completed within 6 months.
* Current valid PA driver’s license.
* Annual Handle with Care training.
* CPR Certified within 6 months.
