    JOB SUMMARY

    The English Learner Paraprofessional works closely with students who have been identified as English language learners throughout the school day to help the students learn and succeed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    + Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    + Able to react quickly and calmly when an emergency arises.

    + Ability to explain and participate in daily activities.

    + Must be able to interact in a positive manner with students, faculty, parents, and other staff members.

    + Effective listening skills.

    + Bilingual in Spanish and English required.

    + Education

    + High School diploma or G.E.D required.

    + Experience

    + Some experience working with children is helpful, but not required.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Ability to relate successfully with students, staff, families, and the community.

    + Ability to work as an advocate for the student and a liaison with the student, teacher(s), and parents.

    + Ability to become knowledgeable about and apply classroom/building procedures and district policies.

    + Ability to follow directions and to work independently.

    + Take directions from principals, EB teachers and classroom teachers.

    + Work collaboratively with school staff.

    + Interpret verbal communication – in school or over the phone with parents.

    + Translate classroom assignments, documents, etc. for students.

    + Translate written communication for parents.

    + Assist with individual students or groups in classrooms as directed.

    + Assist at registration and parent/teacher conferences.

    + Maintain confidentiality.

    + Encourage the student’s independence within the school setting.

    + Be a cultural resource.

    + Complete all training as required.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.
