Job Summary

_This is a four year limited term position and is funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds._

The individual in this position will assist with the AU agriculture drone project for the department of Crop, Soils, & Environmental Sciences.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions include the following:

+ Assist with project team spray trials.

+ Manage drone fleet.

+ Repair drones.

+ Conduct field studies.

+ Manage project progress and data.

+ Organize drone events.

+ Supervise undergraduate and graduate student workers in the field.

+ Attend professional conferences, expos, and tradeshows and promote AU studies and project team to generate national and international impact.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

All levels require a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Breeding, or closely related field at the time employment begins.

Level I: No experience required

Level II: 2 years of relevant experience

LevelIII : 4 years of relevant experience

Level IV: 6 years of relevant experience

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

All levels require a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Breeding, or closely related field at the time employment begins.

Level I: No experience required

Level II: 2 years of relevant experience

LevelIII : 4 years of relevant experience

Level IV: 6 years of relevant experience

Advanced degrees accepted in lieu of years of experience.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Must have a demonstrated ability to collect, organize, and analyze data, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a commitment to an inclusive and diverse campus environment.

Minimum Technology Skills

Familiarity with Microsoft Office

Minimum License and Certifications

+ Successful candidate is expected to obtain Alabama commercial pesticide license-D&R category andFAA part 107 remote pilot license within 3 months of employment.

+ Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection.

Assistant: $34,610-$71,120 Associate: $40,200 - $96,230

Working Hours if Non-Traditional

7:45 am - 4:45 pm. Long working hours in summer during field season should be expected (10-12 hr day for field travel)

The successful candidate is expected to work outdoor in summer under high heat and humidity conditions; Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs during field work required.
