Description of Work Unit
Veterinary Teaching Hospital
At the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ) we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. This work unit exists to provide administration and direction of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and provide a support facility for service to the general public and referring veterinarians.

Position Summary
Join our Facilities Repair and Trades team at the CSU Veterinary Health System, where no two days are the same. From welding and carpentry to maintaining fleet vehicles and supporting our barn operations, you’ll be a key part of the team that keeps our busy veterinary facilities safe, functional, and ready for whatever the day brings.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position
Required Job Qualifications
+ High school diploma or GED
+ At least one year of full-time experience in general facility maintenance and building trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, welding, or related fields)
+ Experience operating a variety of equipment, including tractors with loaders, forklifts, and skid steers
+ Basic knowledge and experience in the welding trade
+ Ability to safely maneuver and operate a four-horse trailer
+ Knowledge and demonstrated experience in the safe handling and hauling of livestock
+ The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Three or more years of experience in general facility maintenance and building trades
+ Current certification in CPR and First Aid, or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire, to support responsibilities related to in-depth cleaning and direct mist application procedures
+ Experience working in a veterinary, agricultural, or animal care facility
+ Familiarity with work order systems and digital tools for tracking and documenting maintenance tasks
+ Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
+ Experience fabricating or modifying equipment and fixtures to meet specialized operational needs
+ Strong understanding of safety protocols and compliance with OSHA or other applicable regulations
+ Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse team of faculty, staff, and students
+ Experience coordinating with outside vendors, contractors, or inspectors
+ Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Essential Duties
Job Duty CategoryMaintain and Repair Equipment and Furnishings
Duty/Responsibility
+ Responsible for maintenance and repairs of equipment and furnishings utilized in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the Johnson Family Equine Hospital, Livestock Hospital, and associated barns, outbuildings, and pastures.
+ Will be responsible to perform these duties for future planned VHC buildings as well.
+ Equipment and furnishings include but not limited to hydraulic surgery tables for large and small animal surgery, various patient carts and gurneys, cabinetry, small equipment support brackets.
+ Completes or coordinates service to Fleet vehicles like tractors, and shop trucks/ambulatory trucks with associated veterinary supply boxes.
+ Weld and fabricate metals and alloys to manufacture, rebuild, modify and repair various parts, equipment, systems, and structures, such as stall gates, animal transporters, carts, shelving braces, etc.
+ Build and fabricate cabinets, shelves, counters, fences, and other structures for holding areas, offices, labs, etc.

+ Position works with the VTH / JFEH work order system to complete work orders, update status of work orders, communicate with customers, prioritize work requests, and close work orders.
+ Provides updates on work orders to supervisor and Facility Manager.
+ Hang pictures and other furnishings, assist with coordination of annual certification of hoist systems and coordination of repair for these systems, service central vacuum system.
+ Fabricate and install medical gas hoses and fittings downstream of fixed/braised piping.
+ Fabricate and distribute or install signs.
+ Assure uniformity of sign types, and proposed usage. Use a variety of hand and bench tools.

Job Duty CategoryPerform In-Depth Cleaning/Disinfection of Large Animal Facilities/Assist in Moving Equine/Livestock Patients
Duty/Responsibility
+ Works as part of a team to perform in-depth cleaning and disinfecting of the equine, food animal, large animal ISO barns and breezeway.
+ Assigns and prioritizes work orders and attends any meetings when supervisor is unavailable.
+ May assist with moving hospitalized patients which requires driving a tractor with a loader or pickup truck and stock trailer.
+ Disinfects trailer, tractor, and equipment after use.
+ Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
