    Job Summary

    The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Respiratory Therapist is responsible for the delivery of patient care by applying skills and techniques common to the practice of practical nursing. The Licensed Practical Nurse working in Respiratory functions under the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist and performs respiratory tasks within the LPN

     

    scope of practice.

    Essential Functions

    Documents Effectively:

    • Accurately, timely according to guidelines

    • Legibly

    • Charting reflects patient problems identified in the plan of care and is timely and accurate

    Communicates Effectively:

    • Establishes and maintains two-way communication with peers, staff, physicians

    and administration

    • Communicates appropriate information to licensed personnel

    • Responds to staff, patient and/or family concerns with respect

    • Ensures supplies are readily available, clean, and organized in an efficient manner

    Patient Care:

    • Provides care to assigned patients including the activities of daily living, therapies and interventions for emergent and non-emergent patients

    Medication Management:

    • Monitors/administers and charts all medications prescribed including emergency

    medications

    • Uses patient safety techniques in the delivery of medications including the delivery of medications during emergent situations.

    • Monitors/reports/intervenes in a timely manner any adverse drug reactions to the appropriate physician

    Code Response:

    • Demonstrates ability to critically think and problem solve during a cardiac emergency situation

    Patient Position and Transport:

    • Explains need for and assists with appropriate positioning for patient comfort and transport

    Performs Respiratory Procedures Timely and Accurately:

    • Properly identifies patient before procedures.

    • Appropriately performs patient assessment and correlates care with the patient’s needs while consistently and competently adhering to Respiratory Protocols.

    • Assures that all procedures are properly ordered, verified and acknowledged.

    • Demonstrates ability to handle and/or solve respiratory related problems

    • Proficiently demonstrates adherence of oxygen therapy in regard to age specific care consideration

    •Ensures equipment is readily available, clean and organized in an efficient manner:

    • Ensures proper storage and care.

    • Educates all staff on appropriate care of respiratory equipment.

    • Utilizes hospital approved cleaning materials

    • Moves equipment, without harm to facility property or personnel, and in a timely manner

    • Performs periodical safety/quality control checks

    • Removes damaged equipment from use and returns to appropriate department for repair

    • Performs other duties as assigned or requested

    Qualifications

    + Graduate of a School of Practical Nursing

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Strong knowledge of nursing principles, medication administration, and patient care practices.

    + Proficiency in patient assessment, monitoring, and documentation.

    + Excellent communication skills for interactions with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

    + Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities.

    + Knowledge of safety protocols, infection control measures, and regulatory requirements.

    + Adaptability to changes in patient care needs and healthcare practices.

    Licenses and Certifications

    + Current BLS Certification required

    + License to practice as an LPN in the State of Alabama.
