Job Description

The Cook will be a key member of the Athletic Dining and Catering team at John Paul Jones Arena, responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality meals for university athletes and special events. This role requires a passion for culinary arts, a strong understanding of food safety, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing outstanding service.

Job Responsibilities

+ **Food Preparation:** Prepare and cook a variety of menu items, following established recipes and culinary standards.

+ **Menu Execution:** Assist in the planning and execution of daily menus for athletic dining as well as for catering events.

+ **Quality Control:** Ensure all food is prepared to the highest standards of quality, taste, and presentation.

+ **Food Safety:** Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.

+ **Inventory Management:** Monitor food stock and communicate with the management team to ensure proper inventory levels.

+ **Collaboration:** Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations during service.

+ **Equipment Maintenance:** Maintain a clean and organized work station and assist with the cleaning of kitchen equipment.

Qualifications

+ Proven experience as a Cook or in a similar culinary role.

+ Knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, and equipment.

+ Understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures (ServSafe certification is a plus).

+ Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the athletic and event schedule.

+ Strong communication and teamwork skills.

+ Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 pounds.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
