Job Description

We are seeking three highly motivated Construction Inspectors to join a dynamic team working on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project. This historic project aims to widen the current four-lane segments along nearly ten miles of the I-64 corridor in Virginia, with new twin tunnels across the harbor. The project seeks to increase capacity, ease major congestion, and enhance travel time reliability, making it one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country.

Responsibilities

+ Perform quality control for VDOT Roadway construction, including field soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing, ensuring compliance with contract specifications.

+ Conduct materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density.

+ Review and test concrete deliveries in accordance with VDOT and ACI standards.

+ Verify construction of Roadway and Highway materials to comply with drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

+ Monitor and observe contractual fieldwork under supervision, including excavations, drainage facilities, and pile driving.

+ Advise supervisors of non-conforming field tests and record daily production and test results.

+ Complete daily reports with attached VDOT materials testing forms and receive materials delivery tickets for compliance.

+ Take assignments and direction from Quality Control Lead Management and Senior Level Inspectors.

+ Maintain all required certifications and participate in training courses as required.

Essential Skills

+ Transportation and construction inspection skills.

+ Experience in soils testing, aggregate testing, and asphalt testing.

+ Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and ACI certification.

+ Ability to communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and staff.

+ Ability to accurately record and report daily forms per project requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Candidates with at least one certification if they do not have a degree.

+ Engineering degree holders can be considered for entry-level positions.

+ Active ACI Certification, Soils and Aggregate, Concrete, or Erosion and Sediment certifications are a plus.

+ 0-2+ years of construction experience or experience working outdoors.

+ Ability to work night shifts and weekends with prior notice.

Work Environment

This position requires working outdoors and on-site at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. The work environment involves exposure to the elements and requires adherence to safety standards. Inspectors will have opportunities for career advancement, significant overtime, and company-paid certifications. A paid gas card and company vehicle are provided for work-related travel. The role may require night shifts with a differential pay rate.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr.
