    Summary/Objective

    Gilbert Mechanical, a Legence company, is seeking a motivated Shop/Office Intern to support our warehouse and office operations. This role is designed for a student or early-career professional interested in gaining hands-on experience in both the field and office side of the mechanical contracting industry. The intern will assist the Warehouse and Purchasing team with shop tasks, inventory support, material handling, and office-related duties. Accuracy, dependability, and a willingness to learn are key to success in this role.

    Essential Functions

    • High School diploma or equivalent (current students encouraged to apply).

    • Interest in construction, mechanical systems, or business operations.

    • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs., frequently walk, move, bend, and stand.

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    • Personable, dependable, and eager to learn.

    • Basic computer skills; willingness to learn inventory software.

    • Must be able to obtain forklift certification (training provided if needed).

    Responsibilities/Duties

    • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shop and office environment.

    • Support the Warehouse/Purchasing team with pulling, staging, and organizing materials.

    • Help receive deliveries, check orders for accuracy, and store materials in designated areas.

    • Assist with daily inventory counts and tracking material returns from job sites.

    • Run errands or deliveries to project sites as needed.

    • Provide clerical support such as filing, recordkeeping, and document preparation.

    • Collaborate with project teams to ensure communication between the shop and office.

    • Help with general building and yard maintenance tasks.

    • Secure vehicles, equipment, and yard gates at the end of the day.

    Competencies

    • Organization & Time Management – Ability to prioritize tasks and complete assignments on time.

    • Communication Skills – Clear verbal and written communication, active listening, and customer service mindset.

    • Teamwork – Ability to collaborate with others and adjust actions based on team needs.

    • Critical Thinking – Willingness to problem solve and learn through hands-on experience.

    • Computer Literacy – Basic understanding of Microsoft Office or Google Suite; willingness to learn other systems.
