    Hospice of San Joaquin is the oldest not-for-profit hospice with over 45 years in the County.  We serve all of  San Joaquin  and  Stanislaus  Counties.  We are committed to continuing to be the leader in ensuring the quality of the journey, from a serious illness to the end of life, and to honor our mission by honoring life by ensuring patients and their Caregivers are the focus of everything we do.  We seek a Dynamic, self-motivated Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who thrives in a fast-paced environment and supports our mission .

     

    The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides leadership for the Hospice of San Joaquin and is responsible for its strategic development and growth as well as personnel and financial management, administration of and quality for individual and family services, and public relations and marketing.  In addition, an essential focus of the CEO is community outreach and relations, along with fundraising and social action initiatives.  The CEO performs these responsibilities in accordance with Hospice of San Joaquin’s mission, regulations, policies and procedures, and strategic plan.  This position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

     

    Essential duties and responsibilities/accountability

     

    + Leads Hospice of San Joaquin to fulfill the agency’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.

    + Is responsible for seeking guidance from and communicating effectively with the Board in a timely manner and as necessary for the Board of Directors to function properly and to make informed decisions. Further, coordinates the work of Board Committees with the committee chairs and provides information and reports necessary for effective committee work.

    + Develops a dynamic annual strategic plan and recommends approval by the Board of Directors. The recommended strategic plan shall include goals, objectives, and action plans for the growth, service development, quality, financial positioning, and fund development of and for the organization.  Provides progress reports and updates to the Board at least quarterly.

    + As the primary representative of Hospice, promotes awareness of the programs offered by the organization to the community, including appropriate utilization of services, and is a positive advocate and emissary accordingly.

    + Is responsible for the fiscal integrity and financial soundness of Hospice of San Joaquin, including submission to the Board of a proposed annual operating and capital budget, along with monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.  Responsible for fiscal management utilizing approved financial policies and procedures, operating within the approved budget, ensuring maximum efficiency in resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

    + Collaborates closely to ensure that all financial management, operating, and reporting requirements are performed effectively, and compliance with internal policies and external rules and regulations is consistently accomplished, including the completion of an annual audit with minimal external auditor corrections or recommendations.

    + Directs the development, coordination, integration, and delivery of hospice care services; develops systems and standards for the delivery of services; is accountable for assuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, including adherence to professional standards of care. Assures the continuous analysis and appraisal of service programs and professional personnel.

    + Directs the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and dismissal of all agency staff; assures an appropriate and safe staffing level to meet patient care demands and legal requirements.

    + Collaborates closely with the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) to ensure seamless operation of the services and facilities.

    + Maintains written service agreements or contracts, including financial arrangements with other approved providers for appropriate services necessary to meet the needs of patients and comply with compliance standards.

    + Monitors the method of delivery and quality of patient care services in a manner consistent with licensing, compliance, and other pertinent regulatory standards; keeps current on statutory and regulatory changes affecting the delivery of services and assures that all staff are advised of changes.

    + Maintains accurate reports, files, and records pertaining to the activities of the agency and assumes full responsibility for their completion.

    + Assures communication, interpretation, and implementation, and adherence to agency policies and procedures by staff; communicates staff concerns and unmet patient care service needs to the Board.

    + Coordinate regulatory surveys and the annual program evaluation (QAPI) and ensure the presence of materials required for the evaluation process.

    + Achieves Joint Commission Standards and Conditions of Participation approval status through the education of staff and management of the Joint Commission accreditation activities.

    + Promotes awareness of Hospice of San Joaquin in the community and maintains a positive and ideal image.  Maintain and manage the community reputation of the agency in order to positively affect businesses, organizations, and individuals who contribute.

    + Establishes and manages the development of fundraising activities for the organization, planning and implementing appropriate strategies, and maintaining appropriate records necessary to achieve and optimize fundraising efforts to support the short and long-range needs of providing services to the community.

    + Assumes responsibility for own professional development in leadership and as the representative of Hospice of San Joaquin in the community.

    + Accepts other duties consistent with the agency’s goals, objectives, and programs.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Business, or other Healthcare-related field required.

    + Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business, or other Healthcare-related field preferred.

    + Transparency and high integrity leadership are required.

    + Ability to convey a vision of Hospice of San Joaquin’s strategic future to Board, staff, volunteers, and Community.

    + Strong written and oral communication skills

    + Strong public speaking skills.

    + Minimum of five years of successful administrative experience in hospice, home health, or related healthcare services.

    + Substantive knowledge of current trends in hospice care, Federal and State regulations, State licensing requirements, and community resources and organizations.

    + Demonstrated ability to apply organizational and management concepts effectively; establish and meet appropriate goals and objectives.

    + Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, evaluate, and coordinate staff effectively.

    + Demonstrated ability to maintain accountability and to work independently.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Transportation – reliable means of transportation to and from work

    + Valid Driver’s license

    + Current Auto insurance

    + Mobility – Frequent operation of the computer keyboard, sitting and or standing for extended periods of time, pushing/pulling, sitting/standing, bending/squatting

    + Frequency of lifting – Occasional lifting of 5-20 lbs

    + Visual Requirements – Constant use of overall vision; frequent need for color perception, hand-eye coordination, reading and writing close up, and field of vision work

    + Hearing / Talking – Frequent hearing of normal speech, telephone conversations

    + Emotional/Physiological Factors – Frequent public contact, decision-making, concentration, occasional exposure to urgent or emergent situations, frequent exposure to topics related to death and dying

    + Ability to participate in evaluation of own performance; identify personal strengths and weaknesses, and ability to develop personal plan to improve areas of weakness

    + Environmental conditions – Occasional exposure to noise, dirt, dust, fumes, cold, and heat
