    What You’ll Do as Centralized Monitor Technician:

    + Monitor multiple screens at a central station, interpret ECG rhythms and vital signs, and respond per hospital protocol

    + Detect arrhythmias, ischemic changes, artifacts, and alarm patterns

    + Communicate changes promptly to the care team

    + Maintain continuous observation and ensure patient safety

    Important Cohort Program Details:

    + **Advanced Accelerated Cohort Program Learning –** _paid to be a student cohort & to successfully complete to move into your full-time role_

    + **Cohort Duration: 11 weeks (Mon–Fri)**

    + **Start–End Dates** : **October 20, 2025 – January 2, 2026**

    + **Hours:** 36 hours per week (in-person)

    + **Cohort Program Locations:** St. Louis Community College (STLCC) & BJC Commons, St. Louis, MO (required attendance at both locations)

    + **Compensation** : $16.00/hour ( _pay during & after program once moved into Tech role_ )

    + **Cohort Attendance Policy** : In-person attendance required for the entire duration; no absences allowed. **– no program breaks for the 11 week session**

    + **Homework & Study Expectations:** Estimated study & homework time per night 2 hours per night

    + **Post Cohort Program Requirement** **- After successful completion of program immediately placed into Full-Time Centralized Monitor Technician I position @ BJC Commons on either Day Shift: Mon-Fri (7AM–7PM) or Night Shift: Mon-Fri (7PM–7AM) with every-other-weekend and holiday rotation**

    + **Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri (9AM – 3:30PM)** - STLCC Classroom & Labs

    + **Wednesday’s (7AM – 7:30PM)** – BJC Hands-on Clinicals + In-Class Required Study

    + Final 3 weeks: 12-hour clinical shifts

    Cohort Curriculum:

    + **In-depth Cardiovascular Knowledge:** **_AV blocks (including 1st degree, 2T1/2T2, 3rd degree), differentiating atrial fibrillation vs. atrial flutter, & Junctional rhythms_**

    + ECG fundamentals and rhythm recognition (sinus, atrial, AV blocks, ventricular, pacing)

    + Effectively interpret telemetry data, identify & respond to major life-threatening rhythms,

    + Cardiovascular monitoring: heart rhythms, blood pressure, vital signs - monitor arterial blood pressure, use advanced medical equipment to monitor heart rates, rhythms, and vital signs, Artifact management and alarm fatigue mitigation

    Requirements:

    + High school diploma or equivalent

    + Minimum age: 18

    + **Commitment to successfully complete the program & commit to working at BJC for 1 year afterwards**

    Post-Program Position Placement:

    + Upon Successful Completion of Program Placement into entry level Full-Time Centralized Monitor Technician I role at BJC HealthCare

    + **Position Placement Location:** **BJC Commons (** **_4249 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63144)_**

    + **Shifts: Day Shift (Mon–Fri, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM) or Night Shift (Mon–Fri, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM) with every-other-weekend and holiday rotation**

    Overview

    Centralized Telemetry, a department in which trained monitor technicians observe and analyze various heart rhythms of patients who are admitted to the Centralized Telemetry Monitoring system. Technicians monitor patients within BJH North and South, as well as, BJ West County. Constant communication with nursing staff regarding changes in rhythm status is key to patient care. Technicians will call CODES if lethal rhythms are detected for patient safety and positive outcome of patient condition

    Preferred Qualifications

    Role Purpose

     

    Provides customer-focused telemetry monitoring and interpretation of cardiac rhythms with an average of 48 patients per shift to ensure the prompt and accurate delivery of care vital to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, suspected arrhythmias, drug intervention per floor with need for observation, and potential of life-threatening cardiac events. Initiates code and rapid response teams for patients at risk of death or serious harm. Collaborates with health care providers to initiate, monitor and communicate findings during video monitoring of patients at risk of harm due to medical conditions. Assists with delivery and maintenance of inventory, including inventory storage, cleaning and troubleshooting.

    Responsibilities

    + Establishes and maintains proficiency in the analysis and interpretation of ECG rhythms, spo2 waveforms, and other vital signs as set by physician order that are used to monitor a patient’s overall medical condition. Conducts ongoing reviews of patient ECG rhythm, and depending on level of acuity may include blood pressure, spo2 level, respiratory rate, and Co2 level to develop a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s condition and to communicate that knowledge to nursing staff. Conducts accurate analysis and interpretation of ECG rhythms, preserving a record within the cardiac monitoring system for access by treatment team. Maintains a shift log of all phone calls made. Acts as preceptor and mentor to new monitor technicians. Provides brief, focused education to nursing staff to promote an understanding of cardiac rhythms.

    + Establishes and maintains proficiency in operating the ECG and video monitoring system.

    + Initiates telemetry monitoring via delivery and attachment of telemetry monitoring equipment. Maintains inventory, including storage, ordering, troubleshooting of faulty equipment, and disinfection procedures.

    + Assists in all daily operations in a manner that facilitates the achievement of a high level of customer satisfaction and experience.

    + Establishes and maintains the ability to float to multiple stations located within Centralized Telemetry Monitoring, including the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Telemetry distribution center.
