Stoneleigh-Burnham School, an independent boarding and day school for girls in grades 7-12 in Greenfield, Massachusetts, seeks a full-time Buildings and Grounds worker to help on campus.
Located near the Connecticut River in the Pioneer Valley, a short drive from the Five College Consortium (UMass Amherst, Smith, Mount Holyoke, Hampshire and Amherst College), Stoneleigh-Burnham attracts students from the local area and around the world. In the Buildings and Grounds Department, we seek team members who are technically proficient, interested in engaging in the life of a boarding school community, and supporting the development of our students. For the right candidate, on-campus housing is a possibility as a part of the compensation package.
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and the Buildings and Grounds Team to develop, maintain, and execute plans to address short- and long-term facilities needs
+ Perform daily, hands-on maintenance of school classrooms, offices, housing, and athletic facilities including but not limited to:
+ HVAC, including an extensive boiler system
+ Electrical
+ Plumbing
+ Fire sprinklers and alarms
+ Painting
+ Carpentry
+ Locks
+ General repairs and cleaning
+ Pool operations
+ Serve in an on-call capacity for all emergency maintenance needs
+ Solicit bids and manage outside contractors for performance of both individual tasks and execution of larger capital projects
+ Maintain compliance with state and federal building/facilities operations codes and laws
+ Maintain appropriate records related to facilities and related projects
+ Maintain tools, supplies, and an organized and safe shop
+ Assist with event setup and rearrangement of spaces
+ Assist with major events as needed
+ Support the works of the Grounds team with snow removal, mowing, fleet maintenance, etc. as needed
+ Other duties as assigned by the Head of School and the CFO
Qualities and Qualifications:
+ 5 years of experience or equivalent with hands-on facilities maintenance and management; familiarity with a school environment is a plus
+ High school or vocational school diploma or equivalent required
+ Valid Massachusetts driver’s license
+ Background checks (CORI/SORI/fingerprinting) required
+ Trade licenses/certifications in electrical, HVAC, and/or plumbing preferred
+ Must be proactive and flexible, able to prioritize on an ongoing basis and switch tasks as need
+ Must have excellent communication skills and interest in working as a part of team in both supervisor and supervisee capacities
+ Ability to assess, diagnose, and respond to problems quickly and effectively
+ Ability to work with small tools and equipment
+ Possess the necessary physical abilities, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including:
+ Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
+ Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above ten (10) feet
+ Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling and moving between and within buildings on campus
+ Working in confined spaces
+ Working within extreme temperature ranges both indoors and outdoors
+ Flexibility to serve in an on-call capacity for all emergency maintenance needs and to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
+ Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional growth and development
+ The desire to work in a boarding school community and be invested in campus life
+ Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
