    Description

    The City of Norfolk's Slover is currently seeking a Manager of Visitor Marketing that develops and implements annual marketing plan to generate visitation. Meets with potential advertising representatives and purchases local, regional and national print and broadcast advertising. Manages the overall marketing, public relations, media relations and sales functions.

     

    The Slover located in downtown Norfolk is comprised of 4 unique areas: venue rentals, business center, creative studios, and the Downtown Branch at Slover.

     

    Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $59,393-$68,301

    Essential Functions

    Essential functions include but are not limited to:

    + Administers advertising program by meeting with representatives, requesting and approving advertising/marketing materials, processing invoices, developing advertisements concepts, writing copy, working with graphic designers, determining quantities, researching opportunities and costs, and developing spreadsheets.

    + Manages marketing requirements by developing and implementing co-op marketing opportunities, meeting with co-op partners, developing and writing timelines and strategies, producing collateral materials (print, social media, and web), and meeting with staff members and reviewing marketing plans.

    + Develop marketing plans including print, social media, and web to generate visitation.

    Education/Experience

    Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

     

    Three years’ minimum marketing experience.

     

    Work requires the ability to read contracts, reports, sales agreements, and marketing plans.

     

    Work requires the ability to write reports, marketing plans, and news releases.

     

    Managerial responsibilities include planning and managing work functions, marketing initiatives, and events.

     

    Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees in a work unit including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, and realigning work as needed.

     

    Work is governed by broad instructions, objectives, and policies. Work requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent analytical and evaluative judgment.

    Work Hours: Workdays and hours will vary depending on organizational needs. Staff typically work schedules anytime within the hours of 8:30 am – 7:00 pm Monday – Saturday. This position will require flexibility to work some rotating weekends and evening schedules.

     

    + Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.

    + Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.

    + Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.

    + Retirement

     

    If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

     

    If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

     

    + The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
