    Job Summary

    Job Summary

    Work with the technical and user support staff at the Center for High Performance Computing to facilitate and support computational and data research at the University of Utah.

     

    The Center for High Performance Computing ( CHPC ) at the University of Utah provides advanced scientific computing services to a broad set of leading-edge, computationally-oriented faculty, research staff, and graduate students in a number of research disciplines on campus. The CHPC team includes a diverse set of systems and network experts, scientific programming consultants, and user support specialists. CHPC operates a number of computational clusters and storage arrays.

     

    This opening is for a member of the User Services team, working directly with users of our computing center, installing and supporting scientific applications, providing training, documentation, and one-on-one consulting to facilitate researchers’ use of computing resources on campus and elsewhere to achieve their research goals.

    Responsibilities

    Provide user support in a technical and diverse academic research computing environment.

    Responsibilities include:

    + Contribute to the overall research capabilities of the center and institution.

    + Install and support software applications.

    + Provide training to user base.

    + Create and maintain documentation both for user base and internal to the department.

    + Attend departmental & institutional meetings as needed.

    + Attend conferences and participate, contribute and/or present as appropriate.

    + Network with peer institutes and form collaborative relationships

    Minimum Qualifications

    Department Specific Requirements

     

    + Experience with computational research.

    + Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment.

    + Have good communication and organizational skills.

    + A commitment to provide excellent customer service.

    + Demonstrated ability to be a flexible, organized, thoughtful, and proactive team player who can work with minimal guidance.

    + Comfortable working in a team environment to support technologies enabling the research mission of the University.

    + Ability to maintain a culture of openness, trust, and transparency while ensuring a safe, secure, and protected environment for our customers.

     

    Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

     

    Preferences

     

    Experience with bioinformatic and genomic software preferred.

     

    Experience working with regulated computing environments preferred.

     

    Experience working in a computer cluster environment preferred.
