MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Below are the minimum requirements for Texas Certified Paramedic Firefighter Trainee Position:
1. Possess an active Texas Department of State Health Services Certified Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P) prior to job offer.
2. Per Chapter 143.023 of the Tex. Loc. Gov’t code, a person may not be certified as eligible for a beginning position in the fire department if the person is 36 years of age or older.
$20,000.00 Incentive Pay for ALL new hires Texas Certified EMT - Paramedic Firefighter Trainee hired in January 2026

GENERAL INFORMATION
+ Texas Department of State Health Services Certified Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic will be subject to verification by the Human Resources Department.
+ Texas Commission of Fire Protection Certified Firefighter will be subject to verification by the Human Resources Department.
+ The employee must demonstrate satisfactory performance and attendance based on department's standards.
+ Failure of the employee to successfully complete the Fire Academy will result in the City of Houston pursuing reimbursement of this incentive payment.
+ Participates in classroom lectures, seminars, and practical training sessions as directed by the Houston Fire Department.
+ Receives and participates in various types of training in emergency medical services and fire suppression.
+ Participates in drills, demonstrations, and instruction in hydraulics, pump operation, maintenance, fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services.
+ Any falsification in the application process will result in disqualification.
+ Applicants must pass and complete all phases of the hiring process (physical ability test, interview, background, immunizations, drug screen, medical examination).
+ Immunizations/shot records will be required prior to receiving a job offer.
+ HFD reserves the right to discontinue consideration in the hiring process based on an applicant conduct or verification of certain disqualifying factors.
+ Must not have ever been convicted of or received community supervision or probation for a Felony or a Class A Misdemeanor.

A person may not be certified as eligible for a beginning position in the fire department if the person is 36 years of age or older."
