    Patient Care Technician - Resource Pool

     

    Schedule: Full-Time | Primarily Days with Rotation (7a-7p / 7p-7a)

     

    Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Every third weekend & approximately 3 holidays per year

     

    Differential: Eligible for a 10% floating differential

    UPMC Williamsport is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Technician - Specialist to join our Resource Pool team. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about providing high-quality, compassionate care in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

    Position Overview

    The Patient Care Technician - Specialist supports nurses and healthcare providers by performing essential clinical and personal care tasks. This includes monitoring vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), collecting specimens, and maintaining a safe and clean patient environment. Depending on departmental needs, this role may also involve advanced clinical skills such as basic arrhythmia monitoring, complex wound care, 12-lead EKGs, and NG tube clamping/removal.

    Key Responsibilities

    Perform core patient care duties including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, repositioning, and transporting patients

     

    Conduct point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose), monitor vital signs, and document intake/output

     

    Apply and reapply telemetry monitors, TEDs/SCDs, and complete simple dressings

     

    Collect specimens and assist with procedures such as IV and Foley catheter insertion/removal, straight catheterization, and phlebotomy

     

    Provide patient and family instruction under RN direction

     

    Support unit operations by responding to call lights, passing meal trays, and completing clerical tasks

     

    Transport patients, including those on cardiac monitors, and safely handle medications during transport

     

    Maintain competency in at least one advanced skill area based on department needs

    + High school diploma or GED.

    + Must also have either

    + a) 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements of Patient Care Technician - Senior title, OR

    + b) 1 year of experience (defined above) and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or

    + c) 1 year of experience (defined above) and completion of a bachelors degree in a health sciences field.

    + Annual completion of a professional contribution to be determined after hire

    + Successful completion of patient care technician specialist class

    + Successful completion of eRecord training.

    + Nursing Student that has completed one clinical rotation preferred Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.

    + Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course and annual competency required. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire ACLS preferred

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

    + Act 33 with renewal

    + Act 34 with renewal

    + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
