    Position Announcement: Assistant Professor of Finance

     

    TheDepartment of Finance and Economics (https://fin-eco.mccoy.txst.edu/) in theMcCoy College of Business (https://www.mccoy.txst.edu/) at Texas State University invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Finance, beginning Fall 2026.

     

    We seek an outstanding scholar with a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service excellence. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate finance courses across our San Marcos and Round Rock campuses, utilizing a variety of instructional modalities. Candidates should demonstrate clear potential to publish impactful research in leading finance journals and to contribute meaningfully to the academic and professional finance community.

     

    While we welcome applicants from all areas of finance, we prefer candidates with expertise in banking, applications of artificial intelligence in finance, wealth management, or real estate. We are especially interested in scholars who apply innovative, rigorous analytical approaches to solving real-world financial challenges. Experienced candidates should present an established research agenda with publications in top finance journals.

    About the Department of Finance and Economics

     

    The Department of Finance and Economics is one of five departments in the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University. With more than 40 faculty members, it is a large, multidisciplinary academic unit committed to innovative teaching, impactful research, and student success. Faculty expertise spans investments, corporate finance, financial derivatives, banking, economics, and business law.

     

    The department offers Bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Economics and a STEM -designated Master’s degree in Quantitative Finance and Economics, which equips students with advanced skills in econometrics, data analytics, and financial modeling. In addition, the department contributes extensively to McCoy College’s MBA programs and supports the newly launched Online Doctor of Business Administration ( DBA ).

     

    Students benefit from rich experiential learning opportunities, including the T. Paul Bulmahn Research and Trading Lab, industry engagement through student organizations, and direct connections to practitioners via the Center for Banking and Financial Services, which is housed within the department.

    Required Qualifications

    + A Ph.D. in Finance or a closely related field from an AACSB -accredited institution, earned by the time of appointment.

    + Demonstrated potential for high-quality scholarly research, with a clear trajectory toward publishing in top finance journals.

    + Evidence of teaching effectiveness and a commitment to excellence in instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with the ability to teach in multiple modalities.

    + Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with an interest in applying rigorous methods to real-world financial problems.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: banking, artificial intelligence applications in finance, wealth management, or real estate.

    + Evidence of cross-disciplinary research or collaborations that bridge finance with other fields.

    + Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CFA , FRM , CAIA ) or significant industry experience that enhances teaching and research.

    + Experience or interest in developing courses in emerging areas of finance.
