Job Description
Be the welcoming face of the Health Department! As a Public Health Office Assistant, you’ll help keep our services running smoothly by assisting patients, managing registration, supporting clerical operations, and maintaining accurate records. You’ll play a vital role in connecting the community to essential health services and ensuring a positive experience for all.
What You’ll Do:
+ Greet and assist patients in person and by phone
+ Register patients, schedule visits, and verify insurance
+ Enter and maintain data in state health systems (e.g., MOHSIS, CASA)
+ Collect and reconcile payments and maintain accurate records
+ Support vaccine inventory and monitor storage temperatures
+ Help with reports, mail, supplies, and general office duties
+ Provide clerical support at outreach sites and special clinics
+ Assist with birth/death certificate processing and voter registration
+ Promote a friendly, organized, and professional front office environment
Minimum Requirements:
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ At least 2 years of clerical, receptionist, or data entry experience (preferably in healthcare or customer service)
+ Typing speed of at least 30 wpm and basic Microsoft Office skills
+ Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
+ Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to multitask effectively
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with Medicaid billing or vendor communication
+ Familiarity with basic billing processes
