A Day in the Life As a Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic, your day starts with inspecting the fleet-diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and rail track equipment. You'll troubleshoot issues, make repairs, and perform preventive maintenance. One day you might replace hydraulic components; the next, you could be diagnosing an electrical problem in the shop or repairing equipment out in the field. Whether welding, fabricating, or adjusting systems, you'll be essential to keeping freight moving.
