Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Assistant Director for Student Activities supports the holistic development and success of undergraduate students through comprehensive student organization advising, innovative programming, and strategic campus partnerships. This position is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of student organizations, managing signature university events, and promoting meaningful co-curricular experiences that foster leadership, community, and personal growth while promoting retention. The Assistant Director plays a critical role in enhancing the vibrancy of campus life, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and aligning student engagement efforts with institutional/divisional goals and student development outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Student Organization Advising
+ Advise 68+ pre-professional, performance, and dance student organizations.
+ Provide developmental advising in areas of leadership, event planning, risk management, and financial stewardship.
+ Coordinate regular workshops, trainings, and one-on-one support.
+ Provide guidance and training on contracts, budgeting, and policy compliance.
+ Support student development through intentional reflection and growth-focused conversations.
Student Organization Management
+ Administer the activity registration and management process for all assigned undergraduate student organizations; this responsibility includes advising students on developing, implementing, assessing, and facilitating programs in alignment with university policies and procedures.
+ Serve on campus-wide committees including the CCC Steering Committee and Student Organization Review Board.
+ Consult on high-level program ideation and execution for student organizations.
Departmental Program Management
+ Serve as Chair of the UR Late Night Programming Committee.
+ Oversee the full UR Late Night events calendar.
+ Collaborate with student leaders, campus departments, and community partners to deliver diverse, inclusive, and engaging late-night programs.
+ Collaborate with the Associate Director of Programming to develop and manage the ROCtix program calendar, ensuring a diverse and engaging lineup of events aligned with student interests and departmental goals.
+ Serve on the planning team for all major WCSA programs and community weekends.
+ Act as liason for headlining acts during major Rochester Traditions weekends (e.g., Yellowjacket Weekend, Winterfest, Springfest).
Financial Management
+ Manage the UR Late Night program budget of $28,000, ensuring responsible fiscal planning and expense tracking.
+ Manage the ROCtix budget of $15,000, including ticket subsidies, event promotions, and vendor coordination.
+ Support student organizations in managing their annual budgets, including funding requests, purchasing, and reconciliation processes.
Committee Involvement & Campus Partnerships
+ Partner with offices such as Event and Classroom Management, Facilities, and Public Safety for smooth program execution.
+ Maintain strong relationships with key campus stakeholders, including the Hajim School Dean’s Office, which serves as a major funding partner for several student organizations.
+ Collaborate closely with the Greene Center for Career Education and Connections to support and enhance the work of pre-professional and academic student organizations, aligning co-curricular experiences with students’ professional development goals.
+ Support broader Student Life initiatives such as leadership trainings, new student orientation, Senior Week, Commencement, and other campus traditions and milestone events.
Professional Development & Industry Engagement
+ Maintain active membership in national student affairs and campus activities associations (e.g., NACA, ACUI, NASPA).
+ Stay informed of emerging trends and practices in student engagement and higher education.
+ Foster relationships with vendors, performers, and agencies for programming opportunities.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor's degree. Required
+ Master’s Degree in higher education/student affairs, counseling, or related area. Preferred
+ 2 years of experience in student activity program management, or combination of education and experience. Required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
+ Outstanding communication skills, including direct interpersonal skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to think creatively and develop innovative programs and solutions to problems.
+ Demonstrated ability to work with, motivate, and lead individuals (including volunteers) is preferred.
+ Ability to work as a member of a team to accomplish objectives.
+ Experience with computer technologies and sophisticated software applications.
+ A personal belief in mission, goals and objectives of private higher education and a desire to change the world.
+ Willingness to promote philanthropy for the University.
+ Evening and weekend work is required.
