_Meijer offers an 11-week internship program that challenges interns to deliver innovative solutions to real projects that impact the business. Throughout the course of the internship experience, we deliver diverse personal and professional development opportunities that further develop skillsets that can be implemented both during and after the program. The internship program will allow for interaction with other interns and Meijer senior leaders._

**_What you will be doing as a Government Affairs Intern_** _:_
_The Meijer Government Affairs Team’s mission is to amplify Meijer’s brand and values through issue advocacy, strategic partnerships and outreach, cross-functional collaboration, and policy development that best serves our customers and strengthens Meijer’s competitiveness in a fast-paced business environment._
_The Government Affairs Intern will learn from a variety of practical, real-world experiences including the following:_
+ _Conducting in-depth research on specified Government Affairs topics/challenges/questions (TBD) to develop a final presentation for executive leadership._
+ _Monitoring, analyzing and reporting on federal, state and local executive, legislative and regulatory activity relevant to Meijer and the overall retail industry._
+ _Working with internal stakeholders to analyze business impacts and implications of various government policies to assist in advocacy efforts._
+ _Assisting Government Affairs leaders in developing policy agendas and engaging in implementing strategies to accomplish policy goals._
+ _Collaborating with Meijer Communications to ensure consistent messaging and brand amplification with government officials and strategic partners._
+ _Drafting advocacy communications to government officials on specific legislation and regulation._
+ _Attending committee hearings and meetings as needed with government officials across the Meijer footprint._
+ _Developing relationships with elected officials and government staff throughout the Meijer footprint._
+ _Attending and participating in internal meetings and provide input on various Meijer initiatives._
+ _Assisting with special projects._

The Government Affairs Intern may perform other duties as assigned or required by Government Affairs leadership. The Government Affairs Intern may have the opportunity to participate in day-long business travel (i.e. Lansing, Meijer facility tours, etc.), and outside events (political events, conferences, etc.)._
**_Qualifications_** _:_
+ _Undergraduate student currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from a four-year college or university with an academic focus on Political Science, Pre-Law or adjacent field of study._
+ _Ability to thrive and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment._
+ _Excellent writing, research and communication skills._
+ _Independent thinker, with strong critical reasoning and problem-solving skills._
+ _Self-starter, able to manage ambiguity and possessing courage to try new things._
+ _Capable of building new relationships and possessing emotional intelligence._
+ _Comfort in a corporate environment, including being amongst senior business executives._
+ _A passion to compete._
+ _Microsoft Office experience, with the flexibility and desire to learn additional technology skills for using varied systems and tools._
