    Department/Division Summary:

    The Johns Hopkins Department of Neurosurgery is one of the largest and most distinguished neurosurgical departments in the country. Consistently ranked among the top 10 programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report--including six years at #1--our department is recognized for excellence in clinical care, research, education and innovation.

     

    With more than 5,500 cases performed annually, the department continues to expand across subspecialties and new markets. The Spine Division, encompassing peripheral nerve, deformity, spinal oncology and trauma, performs over 1,200 cases each year and is comprised of seven neurosurgeons at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and Suburban Hospital.

     

    Our research enterprise spans basic, translational, and clinical science, supported by approximately $15 million in external and philanthropic funding. With over 25 active clinical trials, we rank consistently among the top 15 in NIH funding nationally. The department is also a leader in education, with 28 residents, 7 CAST-approved clinical fellowships, and a variety of research fellowships, along with active engagement of undergraduate and medical school trainees.

    Position Summary:

    The Johns Hopkins Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a Division Director for Spinal Neurosurgery--a full-time, clinically active faculty position--for a dynamic, visionary neurosurgeon committed to excellence in care, innovation, and academic leadership.

    The ideal candidate will:

    + Deliver the highest standard of spinal neurosurgical care

    + Champion multidisciplinary collaboration and teamwork

    + Mentor and train the next generation of neurosurgical leaders

    + Advance the field through cutting-edge research and innovation

    + Lead and grow a premier spine program across the Johns Hopkins Health System

     

    This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of spinal neurosurgery at a leading academic medical center, with robust institutional support for clinical, research, and educational excellence.

    + M.D. or equivalent medical degree at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor

    + Completion of an ACGME-accredited neurosurgery residency and a fellowship in complex spine or spinal deformity surgery

    + Board certified in Neurosurgery

    + Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Maryland

    + Demonstrated clinical excellence in the care of patients with complex spinal conditions

    + Robust research portfolio in clinical, translational, or basic science, with extramural funding preferred

    + Proven commitment to mentorship of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and students

    + Prior leadership experience with demonstrated success working collaboratively across a wide range of stakeholders and interdisciplinary teams

     

    Salary: 700,000-1,000,000

Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity.
