    Facilities Management has an outstanding opportunity for a Maintenance Custodian 1 (NE S WFSE Campuswide) to join our team.

    Position Summary:

    Perform custodial duties and routine maintenance work on buildings, facilities and equipment. This position performs tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities within assigned area. Serves as a role model for students by displaying a professional, courteous, and helpful nature.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Police the assigned exterior perimeter of the buildings, grounds, parking lots to remove debris, ensuring that the areas are in a neat and orderly condition. Additional clean up required beyond normal policing may be required as needed.

    + Removal of waste from receptacles for landfill, recycling, and compost on exterior property and replacement of designated liners. Clean receptacles monthly.

    + Perform all cleaning tasks assigned via the work order system.

    + Clean interior and exterior surfaces of lobby windows, windowsills and doors. Operate high-pressure washer for exterior areas, including walkways and building exteriors.

    + Use power equipment and hand tools such as: brooms, mops squeegees, ladders, wet/dry vacuum (shop vac), vacuum, buffer, polisher, steam cleaners, carpet extractors, blowers, restroom cleaners, pressure washers and window washing equipment as required for cleaning and custodial maintenance of floors, sidewalks, hardscapes, carpets, walls, furniture, stairwells and elevators.

    + Removal of weeds and invasive plants in and around hardscaped and parking areas throughout the year as needed.

    + Set-up and take down equipment such as chalkboards, easels, furnishings, such as folding chairs and tables needed for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events. Support and cleaning tasks associated with outdoor events on campus.

    + Lock and unlock buildings; secure buildings when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized occupants.

    + Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.

    + Replace/fill and repair/replace dispensers for soap, toilet tissue, hand towels as needed.

    + Assist in records maintenance of appropriate (battery-operated) power equipment use and water replacement in Eye Wash stations and MondoVaps.

    + Polish/recondition cement/concrete floors.

    + Transport trash and recyclables to, and place them in, the compactors. Also, operate the compactors and prepare for them emptying.

    + May perform cleaning and related activities in areas within reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove weeds, dirt, debris, waste or sweeping sidewalks or stairs.

    + May use shovels to remove snow; may distribute and apply di-icing chemicals and sand.

    + May move furniture, equipment, supplies, tools.

    + Will be required to drive university vehicles and maintain related certifications. Must have a valid current WA State Driver’s License.

    + Perform related duties as required

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    + Physical ability to do required work; AND one year of experience in custodial, grounds or general maintenance work.

     

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as license/certification/registration.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Comply with all UW and UWT Facilities protocols, policies and procedures

    + Support all management directives and the vision and values of Facilities

    + Actively participate in meetings and training as scheduled.

    + Ability to be physically active for the entire shift while completing cleaning tasks, including regularly lifting up to 35 lbs.

    + Employee is required to properly use safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.

    + Ability to communicate in person, by radio, electronically and over the phone. Ability to use computer equipment to complete reports, generate service orders, maintain inventories, etc.

    + Phone communications include: answering when called, and responding to emails and texts.

    + Use of computers and phones include: submitting Workday Time Entries, and submitting Work Orders. When responding to Work Orders, text your Lead or the Supervisor: when you have completed the Work Order task and how long the task took to complete.

    + Provide cleaning, as requested by your Supervisory team, for Events on campus or as part of a team when needed for large events and/or in large event spaces.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    + This position will work Monday – Friday first shift.

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $44,256.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $52,104.00 annual
