Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
Acts as a member and leader of the pharmacy technician team. Oversees adequate training and management of training materials for the area of supervision, in conjunction with the Training Specialist for their area (if applicable). Establishes the work schedule for the area of supervision and evaluates of performance of direct reports. Ensures that all pharmacy technician functions are completed in alignment with state, federal and local regulations. Completes all activities under direct supervision and approval of a licensed pharmacist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Fulfills the responsibilities of a pharmacy technician in the area of supervision with a high level of knowledge and skills.
+ Demonstrates competency in job specific medication delivery tasks.
+ Demonstrates competency in the set-up and filling of medication orders in relevant areas of supervision.
+ Competent in the operation and troubleshooting of pharmacy automation in relevant areas of pharmacy operations.
+ Capable of using reports and other information to optimize performance of pharmacy automation.
+ Serves as a role model for excellent customer service in all interactions with members of the hospital staff external to the pharmacy, as well as the general public, including phone triage, etiquette, and service recovery.
+ Retrieves information and effectively communicates responses to requests for information that do not require a pharmacist.
+ Differentiates what does and does not require the involvement of a pharmacist.
+ Troubleshoots problem orders or other issues and questions in eRecord.
+ Demonstrates knowledge concerning pharmacy regulatory requirements and compliance with accreditation standards.
+ Participates in Joint Commission readiness and other regulatory/compliance activities.
+ Provides operational coverage to all shifts in area of primary supervision.
+ Trains technicians and assesses ongoing competency in all duties in area of primary supervision.
+ Contributes to the training and assessment of all staff.
+ Performs monthly unit inspections and documents findings according to departmental policy.
+ Performs at a competent level in at least one other area of operations in the department other than the area of primary supervision.
+ Serves as a leader on the shift, maintaining workflow, delegating tasks, and handling any issues that arise.
+ Establishes a team schedule that is available to all members of the team within departmental expectations of timeliness, developed in coordination with other technician supervisors to ensure adequate cross-coverage to meet minimum staffing needs in all areas.
+ Frequently interacts with pharmacy managers and other technician supervisors to ensure staffing is meeting minimum requirements in all areas of the department and maintain daily workload.
+ When short-staffing situations exist, adjusts staff accordingly to ensure adequate and timely coverage.
+ Establishes and maintains positive team dynamics among the pharmacy and clinician staff through regularly scheduled meetings and communications about team performance, process improvement and overall team accomplishments.
+ Responsible for holding general technician meetings throughout the year to discuss relevant concerns and needs.
+ Manages issues and conflicts that emerge in a timely and professional manner to quickly and effectively resolve problems that may disrupt team dynamics.
+ Seeks assistance from departmental leadership and HR professionals early in the process, as needed.
+ Serves as liaison between technician and pharmacy leadership.
+ Brings ideas from staff that relate to process improvement and safety to leadership.
+ Supports down pharmacy policies and initiatives.
+ Manages the interview and hiring decision process for pharmacy technicians, adhering to all University policies relevant to the interview and hiring process.
+ Collaborates with leadership, as needed.
+ Conducts performance evaluations of direct reports in accordance with university and departmental expectations and policies, including new hire evaluations during the introductory period, annual performance evaluations, and interim evaluations of performance as needed. Responsible for completing employee evaluations.
+ Seeks feedback from relevant pharmacy manager, as needed.
+ Monitors time and attendance of direct reports.
+ Maintains time and attendance documentation appropriately based on area of work.
+ When necessary, conducts progressive discipline, up to and including termination decisions.
+ All decisions related to progressive discipline are in concert with the relevant pharmacy leadership and HR business partner.
+ Promotes employee engagement and supports employee retention efforts.
+ Coordinates the training schedule and assignments for all newly employed pharmacy technicians to ensure an effective training experience in conjunction with the Training Specialist for the area of supervision, if applicable. Ensures accurate and timely documentation of all training experiences.
+ Establishes process for ongoing and timely evaluation of the progress of new employees during the technician training process.
+ Coordinates with supervisors in other functional areas to ensure adequate cross-training is completed and competencies maintained.
+ Ensures all training materials are maintained and up to date for the area of primary responsibility.
+ Establishes competency assessments and a schedule for documentation of continuing competency for existing pharmacy technicians for areas of primary responsibilities.
+ Identifies areas of quality, regulatory, or operational improvement and develops proposals relative to process improvement for presentation to the relevant pharmacy manager.
+ Works with pharmacy manager to implement process improvements in the area of primary responsibility.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor's degree required
+ 3 years of acute hospital pharmacy experience as a pharmacy technician, or relevant management experience in the health care setting preferred
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Demonstrated aptitude and ability to effectively provide leadership and direction to coworkers required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
+ Certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program (Currently PTCB) and maintain ongoing education requirements upon hire required
+ NYS Pharmacy Technician Licensure and Registration upon hire preferred
