    This Opportunity

     

    Provides support to technical staff and project managers for geotechnical, construction materials testing and special inspection projects. Tasks may include performing construction materials testing, special inspections, conducting geophysical surveys, collecting samples from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor), and conducting site exploration and geologic logging using a variety of drilling techniques. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding field conditions. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

    Your Impact

    • Perform sampling and testing of construction materials in accordance with ASTM and project specifications

    • Perform special inspections which include but is not limited to retaining walls, rebar, masonry, wood, deep foundations and closeout process.

    • Perform boring layouts, sample collection and logging and assist in writing and reviewing reports and proposals.

    • Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and software.

    • Monitor work procedures and Interpret project plans and specifications for compliance with project specifications

    • Interact with client representative (supervisors, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites

    • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but is not limited to the maintenance of sample collection, laboratory documentation, written procedures, and field/work site logbooks.

    • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.

    • Complete training on assigned tasks.

    • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

     

    Who You Are

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.

    • 1 to 3 years of experience working in geotechnical and construction materials testing industry.

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.

    • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

    • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

    • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

    • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

    • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

    • Valid Driver’s License

    • Reliability – must be able to arrive at designated project sites prior to scheduled times

    • Ability to prepare reports and documentation with Strong written and verbal communication skills

    • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required

    • Must pass physical, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 1-3 years of Construction Materials Testing and geotechnical experience

    • Graduate with BS in Civil Engineering or Geology

    • Ability to obtain ACI and ICC special inspection certifications

    • Troxler or equivalent nuclear gauge certification

    • Ability to evaluate soil subgrade prior to placement of fill and perform standard soil Proctor and moisture checks

    • Ability to read and understand site grading and structural drawings

    • Other NCDOT certifications

    Physical Demands

    • Physical examination required to obtain medical clearance to work

    • Ability to stoop, kneel and to routinely lift and carry 50 pounds

    • Clean driving record and capable of being insured for driving company vehicles

    • Able to work in variable outside conditions, including extreme heat or cold
