    The Pharmacy Manager oversees the daily operations of the pharmacy, ensuring compliance, safety, and exceptional guest service. This role leads, trains, and supports the pharmacy team while also performing all core pharmacist responsibilities, including prescription verification, medication dispensing, immunizations, and patient counseling. The Pharmacy Manager ensures adherence to state and federal regulations and supports the overall goals of Lee’s Marketplace by promoting a positive work environment and delivering high-quality, community-focused care.

    Primary Position Duties:

    ?** **Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Lead and manage all pharmacy operations while performing the full scope of pharmacist duties.

    + Supervise, coach, and schedule pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and interns.

    + Monitor compliance with all state, federal, and company policies, including HIPAA and controlled substance regulations. Complete required logs, documentation, and recordkeeping for audits and regulatory inspections.

    + Oversee pharmacy inventory including ordering, stock rotation, returns, and controlled drug monitoring

    + Review and accurately fill prescriptions according to legal and ethical guidelines.

    + Counsel guests on proper medication usage, dosage, interactions, and potential side effects.

    + Ensures that all pharmacy team members are in compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations (DEA, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.).

    + Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, controlled substances, and patient profiles.

    + Communicate with prescribers to clarify or verify prescription information as needed.

    + Stay up to date on new medications, therapies, and clinical practices.

    + Provide excellent guest service in a respectful, informative, and professional manner.

    + Participate in community wellness programs, clinical programs ( immunizations, MTM, Health Screenings, etc.) and in-store health events when applicable.

    Guest Service:

    + Greet and assist guests in a friendly and courteous manner.

    + Provide knowledgeable answers to guest inquiries.

    + Promote and exemplify a high level of morale within department and store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication with guests and team members.

    + Efficiently handles guest complaints; directs pharmacy operations to keep wait times to a minimum.

    + Offers advice and professional consultation in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations

    + Responds to telephone requests from guests, physicians, and vendors that require the expertise of the pharmacist.

    + Actively participates in Clinical Programs (Immunizations, MTM, Health Screenings, etc.) and all other company sponsored programs.

    + Understands and communicates correct procedures for billing, filling and dispensing products under CMS DMEPOS guidelines.

    + Displays excellent problems solving skills and prides themselves on finding the best resolution that exemplifies the “Lee’s Way- doing what’s best for our guests, our team, and our company”.

    Product Handling:

    + Accurately handle, verify, and dispense prescription medications to guests, ensuring correct drug, dosage, quantity, and labeling.

    + Monitor and manage inventory levels of medications, ensuring appropriate stock rotation (First-In, First-Out), preventing expired stock, and minimizing waste.

    + Oversee the receiving of drug orders from wholesalers, confirming correct quantities, conditions, and compliance with storage requirements.

    + Oversees maintenance of all state and federal record keeping for controlled substances.

    + Ensure all medications are stored under appropriate conditions (temperature, humidity, light protection) according to manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.

    + Maintains CII ordering records, along with CII Monthly audits.

    + Safely and securely store, track, and dispense controlled substances in compliance with DEA regulations, including logging, counting, and reporting discrepancies.

    + Coordinate safe and legal disposal of expired, recalled, or damaged medications through reverse distribution channels or hazardous waste programs.

    + Oversee proper shelving and rotation of over-the-counter (OTC) medications in the pharmacy area, ensuring expiration checks and guest safety.

    + Follow strict hygiene and sanitation protocols when handling medications to prevent cross-contamination and ensure product integrity.

    + Identify and remove recalled medications from inventory promptly and follow recall procedures as mandated by regulatory agencies.

    Cleanliness and Safety:

    + Maintain a clean and organized work area.

    + Follow all safety and sanitation procedures.

    + Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.

    + Regularly sanitize work surfaces, counting trays, pill splitters, and other dispensing tools between each prescription to prevent cross-contamination.

    + Ensure frequent handwashing or use of hand sanitizer before and after handling medications or interacting with guests.

    + Wear gloves when handling hazardous medications or during tasks requiring additional protection.

    + Follow proper procedures for compounding (if applicable), including using cleanroom protocols and aseptic techniques when required.

    + Ensure proper disposal of biohazardous waste, sharps, and expired or recalled medications using approved containers and reverse distributors.

    + Keep storage areas, refrigerators, and freezers clean and organized to maintain sanitary conditions and medication integrity.

    + Maintain clear walkways and organized shelving to prevent accidents or contamination from spills or disorganization.

    + Monitor pharmacy temperature and humidity levels daily to ensure medication storage conditions are compliant with regulatory guidelines.

    + Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed, including masks, goggles, gloves or gowns, especially when handling hazardous or aerosolized drugs.

    + Immediately clean and report any spills of hazardous substances using approved cleanup procedures and kits.

    + Educate pharmacy staff on standard operating procedures for sanitation, infection control, and personal hygiene.

    + Follow OSHA, HIPAA, and company-specific safety protocols.

    + Post and follow emergency procedures for fire, chemical exposure, accidental ingestion, or other safety incidents.

    Cash Handling (if applicable):

    + Operate cash registers and handle transactions accurately.

    + Follow store policies on returns, exchanges, and refunds.

    + Ensure the security of cash and other financial transactions.

    Department Financial Management:

    + Responsible for the financial performance of the pharmacy, including assisting with the budgeting process, monitoring pharmacy reports, having knowledge of direct competition; implementing pharmacy promotions.

    + Track daily, weekly, and monthly sales to ensure targets are met and identify areas for improvement.

    + Implement strategies to minimize product loss through proper rotation, handling, and accurate inventory management.

    + Create efficient schedules that align with sales forecasts and labor budgets, ensuring productivity without overspending.

    + Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate records to control costs and avoid overstocking or shortages.

    + Order pharmacy products strategically to meet demand and prevent excess inventory, while working with vendors to ensure cost-effective purchasing.

    + Review department financial statements, such as profit and loss reports, to assess performance and make informed decisions.

    + Contribute to annual department budget planning and help manage expenses throughout the year.

    + Monitor and reconcile department sales and shrink reports regularly.

    + Approve and oversee markdowns, discounts, and department promotions.

    + Assist with reconciling discrepancies in inventory or pricing as needed.

    + Manages and completes quarterly inventory. Manages the completion of all inventory reports.

    + Monitors third party profitability by implementing the proper processing of third party plans

    + Understands and communicates correct procedures for billing, filling and dispensing products under CMS DMEPOS guidelines.

    Team Collaboration:

    + Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.

    + Promote a high level of morale within department and store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication.

    + Provides a safe, clean, and positive environment; and consistently builds and supports a culture that is based on relationships and continuous improvement.

    + Continually strives to build knowledge and skills, both personally and within the department.

    + Conducts regular team meetings and training sessions.

    + Attends departmental, store, and company meetings as required; contributes to profits and revenues and meets productivity standards.

    + Work in a fast-paced environment with tact and patience.

    + Directs and ensures timely implementation of company policies, procedures and programs; enforces professional and operational standards, including compliance with legal regulations.

    + Ensures that all pharmacy team members are up to date on all mandatory training; including but not limited to; Medicare Fraud Waste and Abuse Training, HIPAA Training, and Federal Combat Methamphetamine Training.

    + Has knowledge of and complies with all company policies, procedures, programs, and directives. Refers to Team Member Handbook continually to ensure policies and procedures are followed. Promotes a harassment-free environment and immediately reports any potential harmful situation to Store management.

    + Maintain good order and productivity through appropriate coaching and proper documentation of these procedures. Maintain consistency with coaching procedures among team members.

    + Ensure that Team Member evaluations are done in a timely manner, and follow company policies and procedures for raises and promotions. Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to encourage professional growth.

    + Be a professional role model for all team members to follow.

    Position Requirements:

    Physical Requirements:

    + Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods.

    + Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

    + Occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl.

    + Lifting may include floor to shoulder and overhead lifting repeatedly.

    Education or Skills:

    Education and Experience:

    + Must have a college degree in Pharmacy (BS or PharmD).

    + Must hold a valid state license.

    + Must complete continuing education hours as required by law.

    + Ability to readily adapt to changes in schedule specifications and work priorities as the business and guest needs demand.

    + Ability to cooperate with others and work as part of a team.

    + Must complete all required state, federal and company training programs (ie. HIPAA, Fraud Waste and Abuse, I-pledge, etc.)

    + Must be trained to provide immunizations and complete CE requirements for Pharmacist Immunizers as dictated by Utah law.

    + Must hold current CPR certificate.

    + Minimum 2 years of retail or community pharmacy experience; management experience preferred.

    + Certified to provide immunizations and CPR-certified.

    + Strong leadership, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

    + Proficient in pharmacy management software, insurance processing, and regulatory documentation.
