Summary You will serve as an INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the Occupational Safety and Health Division, Code 106.1 of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. The President has ordered a government-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the hiring freeze. Responsibilities You will be responsible for the establishment and continuing management of two or more Shipyard-wide industrial health programs: asbestos, confined spaces, mercury, hearing conservation, lead, respiratory protection, or workplace monitoring. You will prepare and issue procedures, instructions and other guidance concerning industrial health programs and related stressors. You will provide industrial hygiene input and comments on standards or instructions to be promulgated by higher authority. You will review and observe work process, procedures, and facility plans to ensure adequate industrial health controls have been considered and incorporated. You will provide periodic written assessments of industrial health programs which identify problems trends and areas for improvement within the Shipyard. You will plan, direct, or conduct detailed surveys and investigations related to the recognition, evaluation and control of industrial health hazards for specific programs. You will provide professional liaison with industrial hygienists of the Naval Medical Clinic and at other Naval shipyards to coordinate efforts to implement industrial health protections of the Shipyard workforce. You will participate as an SME in educational programs designed to informed management, supervisors, and employees of potential hazardous exposures, applicable directives, latest control techniques and general industrial health matters. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional industrial hygienist developing criteria, procedures, or instructions to resolve health hazardous problems and ensure regulatory compliances for the occupational health and safety of shipyard personnel. Education Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; OR A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; OR A Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH)). Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
